SUNDERLAND are 27th in the annual Deloitte list of football’s richest clubs announced today – among 14 Premier League clubs in the top 30. The Black Cats had a revenue of 124.8million euros in 2013-14, while Newcastle are 19th (155.1m). Manchester United may have had their worst season on the pitch for two decades last year but they have reclaimed second spot (518m) and only trail Real Madrid (549.5m). Only the European champions stand ahead in terms of income while Barcelona (484m) by contrast are struggling to keep pace financially with their Spanish rivals, United and Bayern Munich (487m). Manchester City remain in sixth position behind Paris St Germain, with Chelsea and Arsenal sustaining their seventh and eighth places and Liverpool up to ninth. Last years thread. http://www.not606.com/threads/sunderland-afc-in-world-top-50-rich-list.264631/ So from 31st to 27th.
Because of the new 3 billion+ TV package that kicked in last season all 20 teams from last season premiership appear in the top 40 rich list. As stated we a sitting in 27th , and there is only 15 teams throughout Europe ( excluding other premiership teams ) above us . Puts into perspective the importance of staying in the premiership.
Agree shiney (although there's no such thing as the Football Premiership! - sorry for being pedantic!)
By my calculations, once the adidas deal kicks in and if we qualify for the ECL, we'll leave Real Madrid for dead.
Lulling everyone into a false sense of security? Just wait till you see how Chadwick has developed on Friday!
Yeah, I'd love him at United, I doubt he'd go anywhere other than Chelsea though if he come to England, so he can stay in Spain for me. It's time for United to look at the future now, put Ronaldo returning behind us for good and move on, we need the next Rooney to come along now, preferably through our own ranks.
Its why we've been holding onto our naming rights, we've had a mole at barca unsettling him, waiting then boom, sell up, next thing messi is on safsee
A lot of that revenue over the past few years has been eaten up by paying off debts. From what I gather, we're pretty close to going in the black - anyone got any figures for that? So, the league position is still disappointing, but as far as SAFC's overall position as a club is concerned, I'm pretty happy with the way it's going. Once you're in the black you make the decisions on transfers and wages, without having to be looking over your shoulder at what the banks think. And that affects your team's possibilities. It's good - er, I think.
Is that not the same for most Premiership teams with all the money coming in, West Brom, Stoke etc Newcastle reported to be now the richest they every been Will Rooney and rest be wanting pay rises or share of the profits Are Sunderland the richest club not to have played in Europe
Lat word was from maggie just before the tv deal saying the tv deal would clear the debt, there was also noise saying Rodwell was the first big signing paid for by our own revenue so I think the debts have cleared. It makes sense, we were about 40m in debt before the tv deal kicked in.
I think in 1999 our revenue was around £100m after winning the Champions League, so in 15 years, the leap has been astronomical. Surely it can't continue at this ridiculous rate?
bearing all this in mind the absolute must is to stay in this division ,sod the cups is my opinion play your strongest team in the league games and your fringers in the cup .
Spot on, Terry. And that's my point. There will be some clubs who are blowing it on players they can't really afford to pay for on their own two feet - the real price will come when the expanding income stops. Then their expensive players will start drifting away. But the debt won't. That's why I'm a died in the wool Ellis Short supporter. He's handling things right, and getting us out the mire while it's still coming in. The future of clubs run like that is far more assured than those who are enjoying bonanza time recklessly.
