JOSE ENRIQUE is understood to be on the shortlist of Champions League winners Barcelona – according to reports in Catalonia.

Enrique was expected back at United’s training centre today to undergo fitness testing ahead of the new season but it will also present Alan Pardew with an opportunity to sit down face to face with the unsettled Spaniard this summer following a wall of silence from the ex-La Liga man.
Undoubtedly, Enrique would jump at the chance of a move to Barca and, with the player not fully focused, United would understandably not stand in his way of moving on if it means they can recoup the £6m they paid for him back in 2007 – despite the fact the left-back has been offered a contract that would make him one of the top earners at St James’ Park.
The Nou Camp giants are keen to add depth to the left-back slot and Enrique woke up today to speculation linking with a move to the global powerhouse of world football.

Barca have options in the left-back slot with cancer survivor Eric Abidal prepared to finish his career with the club and Brazilian Maxwell also for company, while promising youngster Andreu Fontas has also been promoted to the first-team squad.
Enrique has also been linked with Arsenal and Liverpool this summer but his unhappiness at the club is thought to be triggered by the sale of Andy Carroll.
A source close to Enrique told the Chronicle: “Jose is not convinced that Newcastle have enough depth ahead of the new season.
“At 25 he is keen to look elsewhere and has a burning desire to play in the Champions League next season.”

Should Enrique leave, it leaves United with a gaping hole in the left-back slot with only the inexperienced figure of Shane Ferguson to fill it – unless Pardew opted to play Ryan Taylor or Danny Simpson in an unfamiliar position and used Dan Gosling in the role of right-back which he filled at times during his stint at Everton.
Swansea City and Neil Taylor are yet to iron out their differences even though the former Wrexham man is desperate to join United.

If he is definately going I hope to god it's there <ok>

I'd ask for Fontas in the deal with a buy back clause so they could be buy him back in a few seasons or Maxwell

Couldn't blame him at all for wanting to go to Barca and would wish him the best of luck!

Like CBP says i'd also prefer him to go there than anywhere else in the prem, especially the Bin Dippers.

If he's leaving, please let it be here and not somewhere second rate like Liverpool, it would actually make me proud to see Jose pulling on the Barca strip and playing with the worlds best players.

Probably get more money from Barca aswell.

Still hope he bloody well stays though!

What can Barca offer him that we can't? Selfish little prick. He's obviously after the money. Well screw him and his mother. I want Messi in return otherwise no deal.

NB I felt responses on here were not in keeping with the stereotypical view of our fans, and therefore I have set about to try and repair our image as the most unreasonable and silly fans on the planet.

Rep for the great effort! However, Messi will arrive when Shola finally takes the step down and agrees to his Barca move.

Would be fantastic if he went to Barca, and however I don't know if the money offered would be better as Liverpool just seem to be chucking buckets of money at anything half decent nowadays!

Same. If he's definitely going I would love for him to go to Barca, we'd never face him and it would literally be his dream move. He'd never be out of the Spain team for the next 7 or 8 years either if he moved.

  19. He's perfect for them, he may not be the best LB but he's definitely the best younger one. Any LB you can claim better than Enrique is in their 30's or approaching retirement. And by the time he's as experienced as the rest of them he'll probs be better!

He's strong, pacey, can deliver well, dribble well. He'd be even better in La Liga.

If he doesn't end up there, I hope all of the other clubs impatiently throw big money at other LBs while he waits to make up his mind, and we end up keeping him after all
