I always thought Beatts was pretty good in the air. I also have pictures of him leaping for the punted long ball. The opposition CB gave up trying to compete, such was the height Beatts used to get. Ron Davies would have been impressed.
Beattie had a great leap on him! Although I do recall that in his last season/1/2 a season with us, when we knew he was going and so did he, his timing went completely and he would always jump way too soon.
McCarthy to start for me in a back 3. Toon do not really play with width, so it would free up Clyne and Berti. Toon are big and strong through the middle though
So according to some "expert" on Talksport we played a back 3 against ipswich because Gardos is not good enough to play in a back four...
Any room for Matt Targett in the starting 11. Grind Newcastle down in the middle of the park then go for it by introducing Tadic or Eljia (spelling)
Its funny how we have different memories. I remember him jumping well but often being on the way down too soon. I can still recall pointing it out to anyone who would listen. Hardly anyone seemed to notice it until then but everyone agreed with me afterwards. Just like I hadn't noticed on Cork but I'll watch for it in future (if he ever plays of course).
People have short memories. Remember a Sunday EPL match v Fulham, 0-2 down and Beattie scored a hat-trick I think, including a superb header for (?) 2-2. We won in the end.
Yep, I think so. We won Performance of the Week for the 8-0 vs Sunderland and now the 1-0 at Old Trafford.
SaintsWeb Preview: http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/content....stle-United-vs-SAINTS-Barclays-Premier-League Features a nostalgic look back on our last win at St. James' Park in March 1997, and THAT 41-pass goal from earlier this season.
Enjoyable match preview read about what could lie ahead for Saints: http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/18932/9647171 Yes, OK, it is Jamie Redknapp, but it's still worth reading. As are the comments below the article.
Prediction from my coworker (who knows absolutely nothing about football but picked us to win 1-0 at Old Trafford): 2-0 Saints.
My cat, Big Steve, told me that it would be another clean sheet for us and a goal in the first half from People and a first league goal for JWP in the second. He also said Gardos would have a great game. I don't trust him though, as he said we would score two last week.
Ah, I used to have a cat called Polly, who used to predict Saints scores. Never wrong. Trouble was, she often predicted a loss..! Then again, that was before July 2009.
I'd like to think that intelligent pressing will completely nullify cabella in this match. It will either be that or the ref will be swayed by the geordies and give lots of fouls against him. Sissoko is obviously the main threat for them. I also think our full backs should be able to pin theirs back. Koeman should know enough about janmaat and I think they are weak at left back (at least going forward ). Obviously we are missing players from our great win against United but as out of form as they are they are a lot better than Newcastle. A similar stifling performance and in theory they will struggle to score. And that is half the battle...
