This Pope's latest statement is disappointing, but I had been encouraged by his recent denouncements of creationism and trickle-down economics.
I appreciate everything you've just said Tramore. Yours is a rational and judicious stance to take. However, I think there's one crucial thing omitted (wisely from a Mods point of view) and that's the fact that its that very "sniping" and "heat" that makes threads such as this entertaining. Can the membership honestly say they don't find it a bit of a laugh when they see two posters going at it? I'm not talking about F-ing and blinding one another like a pair of lunatics. I'm talking about there being a bit of needle and controversy in a debate. Imaz and Andy were squaring up to one another there like a pair of Gladiators and I was looking forward to the battle. But the fun was halted before it could even get going by Mr Party Pooper. Who wants to listen to reasoned arguments from morning to night? There's enough Geezers droning on all the time in diplomatic, PC terms. What we want is a few passionate jousts. For posters to be allowed have a bit of a ruck without fear of censor. We're all grown men (and women) after all. We don't have a need to be controlled like unruly children. Tramore, I urge you and Betty to take a very hands-off approach when you take the reigns. Such a policy will bear huge awards, I promise you.
Hey, I lasted 5 minutes of Question Time before my wife said turn it over before you start shouting. Now watching an excellent programme on BBC4 about the distortion of maps.
I'm watching Newsnight rather than QT. Got through QT last week without too much trauma, but then watched the Andrew Neil programme afterwards. Wound up roaring at Diane Abbott - what an idiot (her not me).
Just read your post and have just turned it on. Started five minutes ago on my TV. Instantly I recognise the Muslim guy because I seen him debate Richard Dawkins before. He was actually coping very well with Dawkins until Dawkins asked him if he believed in the flying horse story and he said he did which drew bursts of laughter from the assembled audience. It was curtains for him after this. He was knocked out flat with one blow, despite up until that point sounding extremely intellectual and intelligent. Fair play to him for being honest I suppose. EDIT: Found it. The laughter begins afterward. (BTW, every religion is the same in this matter. Islam is no different. All faiths have stories in this vein)
If anyone needs to gauge exactly how daft this country has become watch Question Time Christ on a bike these people apart from Starky are thick as pig **** they have no idea how the modern Internet works to think that things aren't monitored is madness If you use the Internet then don't expect to have any rights 12 dead in Paris like Starky said is a bloody side show
Yes you are quite correct Swords. Please accept my apologies. I was absolutely wrong. I hold my hands up! For me to try and intervene and warn our fellow noble posters to not get carried away in what is a potentially emotive thread was amiss of me. Myself and my fellow mods will now allow this thread to run and run without any further intervention from us whatsoever. No matter what is said from now on in, we will not spoil your fun. I just hope for your sake that these few 'Passionate Jousts' don't see you burning your bridges. Because if they do then I won't be there to put them out.
There's already Sharia Law in UK: http://blogs.channel4.com/factcheck/factcheck-qa-sharia-law-uk/18486 No point having any more as how would our politicians manage to rule without any hands?
Some people even believe the Royal Family have a divine right to rule. "Dieu et mon droit" etc Some people think Harry Redknapp has a clue.
I doubt even the most ardent monarchists believe in a literally divine right to rule on the part of "royal" family. They just enjoy being boot-licking supplicants. Pretending to give credence to the ludicrous idea of superior bloodlines is surely just part of on act, legitimising an obviously toadying and medieval mindset.
I guarantee you the internet is censored already …. you have very little rights because in most cases today you have to abide with T&C's What makes the whole thing daft is the belief that anyone planning a terror event would use the bloody thing how thick can people be? If you have technology then you are completely traceable … These extremists cottoned on along way back that they were fighting an emery from the future .. They can see us and if they de tech then they have have gone
Then of course there is the dark web We have simply no idea and will remain a target until the powers that be decide to talk … i reckon at least another 20 years
