Aye. I dont have a religious bone in my body but i get really annoyed by the likes of Gervais, Penn etc who insist on mentioning their atheism at every single opportunity and use it to make smug assertions of others. Its no different to preaching religion except they come off as unbearably conceited doing so.

According to the Washington Post, he is saying that it's wrong to insult people's religion

And he's right. Freedom of speech does not excuse being deliberately insulting.

Considering the Catholic church has spent over a 1000 years trotting the globe aggressively forcing their faith down the throats of every culture, race and region they've come across one might consider those words to be a tad hypocritical.

Are people going to say stuff like that every time the Catholic church says anything, even if they have a point?

You are only responsible for what you do now...not what your predecessors did centuries ago. Radical Muslims cannot justify what they are doing now in a modern society, knowing what we know now, by pointing to the evils done in the name of Christianity centuries ago. Whilst you shouldn't insult another's religion for no reason...that doesn't mean you can't question that religion when evil and wrong things are done in it's name. I believe in a degree of respect, but religion cannot be used as protection from criticism or prosecution.

Yes, as long as the Catholic church continues to discriminate/marginalise some social demographics and actively tries to strong arm conversion onto people all over the globe they have no right to preach about morality or tolerance.

There's left wing atheism and right wing atheism. Left wing athiesm is concerned about how religions treat women, gays, etc. Right wing atheism is dislike towards anyone who thinks differently to them. The former is fine, the latter is not.

Exactly Fran. The Balkan atrocities in the 1990's were largely committed in the name of religious differences going back well over 1,000 years. Hopefully they have all been able to reconcile themselves now, so why can't everybody else?

You always talk complete sense and this case is no exception, you're totally right. According to the WP, he said "You cannot provoke. You cannot insult the faith of others. You cannot make fun of the faith of others.” He's talking more morally, not in a sense of it should be forbidden but it's not the right thing to do. Of course, there's satire and there's outright offensive.... That's the distinction that has to be made.

Also, there's a constant irregular tapping that seems to be coming from the wall, any idea have any idea how I can stop it as it's bloody annoying? I think it's to do with the wind....

No matter how you feel about JK, he is highlighting important issues. Last week the program was about legal highs.

Yeah I know that. It is just of putting when he tries to be the centre of attention all the time. Tonight he kept on doing weird stares into mirrors etc.

North Miami Beach police are facing scrutiny after it has been discovered that they used images of African-American men for target practice.

Sgt. Valarie Deant, a national guardsman, saw the target images that the police left behind and noticed a very familiar face among them, her brother Woody. It was his mugshot taken years ago.

“And I was like, why is my brother being used for target practice?,” Deant said to NBC Miami. The image of her brother’s face had a bullet hole through his eye and his forehead. Deant said she broke down and cried.

“She said oh my God, they use you as target practice,” Woody Deant said. “People that are out there who are suppose to be protecting us are using us as target practice.”

Now I knew USA police force's are majorly racisted and ****ed up. But this takes it to a new level.

I am not an atheist, and I agree that atheists who bleat on about it are irritating and no better than religious zealots, but there is no doubt in my mind that organised religion is, has been and will continue to be the biggest evil, and the biggest corruption of "faith" in the world. I believe faith should be a personal thing, about living a good and selfless life - not worship. Worship, to me, is something I deplore as arrogance in man and I cannot accept that any God would want to be worshipped. Why create a species just so they can say how great you are? Is the idea that God is the perfect being - but deeply insecure? Remove worship from all religions and you immediately lose the competitive nature of them - but you also strip the capacity for control by organised religious bodies - like churches - who claim to be have the perfect place for you to get on your knees and prostrate yourself before the might of the great (and insecure) unknown.

When Jesus said you can only get to heaven through me, what did he mean would happen to all the cultures around the world who had never heard of him?

Anyway, give me Eastern spirituality over Western obeisance any day.
