The problem people seem to overlook when it comes to signing players like Rhodes and Deeney is money plus I don't imagine Deeney would be keen on moving to the wilds of East Yorkshire. As for offering players in part exchange would you honestly want Aluko or Sagbo even at championship level.Brady and Bruce can still do a good job for us so why ship them out. I would love us to sign Danny Ings but we can't afford him so at around £4million Gestede seems a decent buy IMO
Also it's January - very few clubs are willing to sell unless an offer comes in that's way above the going rate.
I hope this was ironic. We can't spend loads and this guy scores a lot with his head and at 6'4" he would add nuisance value in their box at other times. 25 in 50 for Blackburn may translate into 5 or 6 for us before the end of the season and would possibly help us stay up.
Sometimes people seem to forget real life isn't like Fifa manager it's not as easy as simply bidding for any player you want and then you get him.
some on here have got to understand we are not going to spend 10 million on a striker it seems to me we are looking at a loan or around 5 million or under so some are going to have to lower their expectations on whom we are after. In all honestly if a striker is playing in the lower leagues or abroad then most of us haven't got a clue regarding there all round game we just look at their scoring record and decide if we want them without seeing them play. Lets just hope we get someone in who can hold the ball up, be a decent header and hopefully add around six goals in our run in. That will be hard to find but could just make the difference regarding staying up
Reading just official accounts on Twitter (including Gestede's agent), it looks like we are in for him. It also looks like Palace and West Brom are in for him. That would mean Palace will have added Sonogo and Gestede to Murray, Gayle, Campbell and Chamakh. Maybe a certain greedy basted might be available?
My stepson in law to be (if he plays his cards right) works for Blackburn and he invited me to go and watch them against Bournemouth. Bearing in mind it was at the time that we were trying to sign Rhodes, so my attention was pretty much on him and seeing how Cairney and Evans played but from what I remember I was quite impressed with Gestede. He seemed to put himself about a bit, was good in the air, looked to have a decent touch and could hold the ball up pretty well. Yes it was against another Championship team but Bournemouth are currently the best team in that league, so it was still good quality opposition. It's only one game and although I'd seen a bit of him playing for Cardiff and hadn't really noticed him particularly, I think he's exactly what we need now and perhaps beyond. At that sort of price, he probably won't expect to be first choice when Jelavic and Hernandez are fit but he'd certainly be ideal to throw on late in a game when we need a goal or someone to keep possession when we're trying to hold onto a lead. I think he'll prove a very good acquisition if we can get him.
we`ve been crying out for a big lump that can hold the ball up, jumps his proper height (rather then ducks like Prozzie) and can put it around a bit (Sagbo take note), all the footage i`ve seen of this lad suggests he is just that, someone who gets stuck in a bit, last one we had like that was `the beast` Parkin. At the price being quoted its a good shout, and when Jelly and Abel return he`ll be excellent coming off the bench, win win scenario for me.
How much do you think we're willing to spend? Blackburn made it very clear Rhodes wasn't for sale and rumour had it we were offering in the region of £12 million, and he is reportedly on £50k a week. On a 4 year deal you're looking at an investment of well over £20 million. Meanwhile Watford are chasing promotion, do you think they'd be happy to lose their top scorer in January? Again, you're talking about a £10 million fee + wages. It's just not going to happen. Also worth noting, Deeney and Rhodes have 9 goals apiece this season, Gestede has 12. Some people have wild expectations. At £4.5 million in today's market, Gestede seems like a shrewd piece of business.
Swansea are apparently in for Rhodes(and have a lot of cash to spend), if they get him, I suspect Gestede will be off the market.
As others have said he offers something different which we've been crying out for. We've been putting in a large amount of crosses but there's been nobody to get on the end of them. When we're looking for a goal in the last few minutes and keep floating hopeful balls into the box he is someone that will make something of them and will be a great impact sub when Jela and Abel are back.
Personally - I'm just delighted to be linked with a striker. He's out scored players that have had a £10-£12m price tag. At £4-£4.5m what's not to like? I can still see Bruce looking at Fletcher at Sunderland.
with the signing of defoe, I can see fletcher coming in, bruce has been looking at him for ages, I hope we dont get him, but I'm 90% sure we will!
Yes there is. There's a 25 man squad all season. If what you claim was true we could sign a player at 1pm on a Saturday and throw him in the game 2 hours later. I know you've got that idea from football manager because I noticed it years ago. And it's wrong.
With altidonkey going tother way fletcher won't be available else they'll be left very light up front. Just look at the position we've now found ourselves in trying to get along with two strikers. Plus Sunderland will play 2 up front. I suspect Fletcher will be Defoes big partner.
I understand what OlM is saying re Rhodes and Gestede however Blackburn's financial situation is dire and the tone of Barlow's press interviews suggest they have a real need to get some cash in ASAP. The Venky's haven't got that sort of money to lose.
I suspect you are right. We were probably only after one of Fletcher or Gestede as they are both big target men so we would only need one of those with Jelly out unless I am missing something.
