Awaiting Official confirmation but it's looking like Jozy is part of the deal to Bring Defoe here. I'm posting this to be the first to the Thread Title

If true, might be good for everyone. His illness before the last game was a certain indicator. Good luck to him.

Hope Defoe does the business. Watching someone with pace will be different!

I never really wanted Defoe to come to us due to his apparent greed and wage demands, if true by the way as we only have what the papers tell us. But, thinking about it, he would be an improvement on what we have right now. I know he's 32 and been away from the EPL for a season but he's apparently training with the spuds so should be reasonably fit, still has more pace than anything we currently have up front and I reckon he would blend well with Fletch or Wickham. He'd certainly give us something different up front, another option and he knows where the net is for sure.

As for Josy, he came, he tried, he never produced so now it's time to go. Good luck for the future and I hope you prove us wrong.

How can he prove us wrong, the supporters wanted him to succeed, and gave him every chance, but he failed us, not the other way round.

Fully agree mate and I've been very vocal against the lad, as I just didn't see him the way others did, that said I never wanted him to fail and wish him all the best for wherever he ends up.

I'm not convinced by this whilst at the same time acknowledging that Jozy's had his chance. I think his overall contribution is sometimes under-rated, but I can't deny he hasn't done the one thing a goalscorer should, i.e. score goals. But will Defoe do the business? He was only a 1 goal in 3 games striker at his peak and how he went to the WC before Bent I'll never know. I just don't think he going to be a better bet than some of the potential alternatives like Danny Ings.

Scored 11 out of 19 starts in MSL and considering how USA showed us up in the world cup with high energy play I have a good feeling about this

There's already been one U.S. blog this morning that's noted how Bradley and Dempsey have both lost a little sharpness since they returned to MLS from Europe. We know Klinsmann is against it. And I just wonder if Altidore is daft enough to upset the man who writes the teamsheet.

Put it this way - I'll be shocked if this happens, and a bit less shocked if it doesn't. Not much against the Defoe signing, but I'll still be surprised if Jozy goes to Toronto.

The Toronto Sun understands Jozy Altidore will be unveiled in Toronto as early as Friday morning after to agreeing to a multi-year, mutli-million dollar deal with the Reds this week.

Details remain vague, but the 25-year-old U.S. international could arrive in Toronto within 24 hours.

News of what could be the biggest off-season signing in MLS arrives less than a day after Toronto FC offloaded Jermain Defoe to Sunderland in an apparent swap deal for Altidore.

The Toronto Sun confirmed late Tuesday night that the Reds attained a record MLS transfer fee for Defoe in the neighbourhood of $11 million.

Toronto FC’s top brass had concerns heading into Wednesday they would miss out on Altidore when it was determined the 6-foot-1, powerful striker would have to go through the league’s allocation mechanism.

The Reds, however, remained at the front of the pack in terms of clubs that were interested in acquiring Altidore, with the Portland Timbers and the New York Red Bulls sitting behind TFC in the allocation order since they finished higher in last year’s table.

Toronto’s “Team America” angle wasn’t lost on MLS head honchos, with speculation running rampant in recent weeks that the United States’ top two players don’t belong in Canada.

U.S. national team coach Jurgen Klinsmann has also been outspoken about Altidore’s decision to leave Europe in his prime.

“With Jozy, I just say it would be nice if I would see him one day in the European Champions League because I think he’s a Champions League player,” Klinsmann told Sports Illustrated earlier Wednesday.

“Now if there is no solution in Europe for him, if the next solution for him is MLS, that’s totally cool with me. I have no problem with that ... But from a competitive standpoint, it’s normal that a coach wishes that his players go to the highest level possible.”

Those who doubt Altidore’s ability likely do their research on Wikipedia.

His lack of goal-scoring in the Premier League shouldn’t cast a shadow over what he’s accomplished since originally leaving MLS in 2008.

The two-time World Cup veteran has scored big goals at the international level, including a goal against Spain at the 2009 Confederations Cup in South Africa.

His hold-up play is top class and he’s going to dig out chances inside the penalty area.

He’s also hungry to resurrect his career after big-money moves to England slowly but surely went off the rails.

The addition of Altidore at BMO Field does raise a few questions for his teammate, Gilberto.

While the potential for the American to team up with the Brazilian seems mouth-watering at the moment, the Reds are also in the hunt to acquire Juventus midfielder Sebastian Giovinco.

While it’s possible MLS will implement a new rule in 2015 whereby allowing clubs to sign four Designated Players, current rules would see Gilberto’s exit if the Italian is signed.

The Toronto Sun has confirmed TFC’s pursuit of Giovinco, and talks are said to be “progressing” in the right direction.

Should the Reds land a 27-year-old Italian play-maker in his prime it will instantly make waves in Europe, where Major League Soccer remains an afterthought to many in the top four leagues.

Toronto FC head coach Greg Vanney has also stated his intent to correct lingering issues at the back.

The Toronto Sun reported last week that the Reds are interested in signing Real Betis centre back Damien Perquis to bolster a back four that still isn’t playoff calibre. Toronto FC conceded 54 goals in 34 games last season as they plummeted down the table during the second half of the season.

Toronto FC’s top brass are hoping key offseason additions will finally be enough to push them into the playoffs for the first time in nine seasons – especially when you consider the club’s payroll could swell to as much as $20-25 million if everything goes their way.

Eyebrows will be raised at TFC’s decision to crack open MLSE’s vault for a player who’s recent history leaves a lot to be desired. Altidore hasn’t received regular playing time this season and limped out of the 2014 World Cup with a tournament-ending hamstring injury.

But the striker appears built for MLS and will be expected to make an instant impact in Defoe’s absence.

When you consider Major League Soccer recently expanded its playoff picture to include 12 of 20 teams, missing the playoffs in 2015 would be catastrophic for TFC – which is also set to unveil a renovated stadium on May 10.

For now, though, all eyes will be on Altidore later this week.

Toronto’s “Bloody Big Deal” has been replaced by the “Big American Deal.”

And that means Canada’s first MLS team might just become one of America’s favourite teams.

    <doh> Fletcher's a donkey?

So what we need is a striker who can score with no supply? Hmmmm...

Good luck to the lad...He has been successful in other leagues and at international level, but sadly it has became patently obvious, both at his time at Hull and with us, that he is not cut out for Premier League football..
