Off Topic BBC Sportsound's attitude towards Celtic

Does anyone else feel the BBC (Sportsound) has been giving Celtic a raw deal over the last 5 or so years?

I'm talking about not very much coverage on the BBC Sport Scotland website and not very much coverage on the radio shows. Also any coverage Celtic do get doesn't seem to be in a favourable or neutral tone.

An example would be...

Yesterday they broke news on the Sportsound radio show that Celtic had made an approach Gary Mackay-Steven. Now that's massive news in Scottish football as he's definitely up there with the better players in the league. It was the second story on the radio show behind some nonesense about Rangers then 3rd on the list of stories on the website. The next day the story had vanished, replaced by news of Henri Anier going to Dundee Utd and Shaun Maloney moving to another English team etc.

It seems Richard Gordon has put together a band of small team heroes and Rangers sympathiser's (Al Lamont and Richard Wilson) who want to do nothing but talk about Rangers finances and how well every team but Celtic is getting on.

Don't get me started on Kenny MacIntyre!

Biggest club in Scotland by a country mile and we very rarely feature these days.

I'd say a change is needed. Richard Gordon has turned that thing into a farce. They need some fresh faces and more Celtic minded people.

 

Who cares? Celtic whore themselves to BT and Sky so why should the BBC tongue the club's metaphorical dunger?

 

Celtic do no such thing. They have the same deal as the rest of the clubs with Sky and BT. Rangers (years ago now) decided to not have any communication with the BBC yet STILL get more coverage than us.

Celtic have the most fans in Scotland by far. Teams like Dundee Utd and Aberdeen etc can't come close. But because BBC Sport(sound) is being ran by an Aberdeen supporter and back up by Jim Spence (Dundee Utd), Derek Ferguson (Rangers), Willie Miller (Aberdeen), Murdo McLeod (An Idiot who does nothing but slag Celtic), Chick Young (St. Mirren/Rangers), Kenny McIntyre (Supports anything controversial), Tom English (WUM) etc... Celtic don't get a look in.

They go out of there way to avoid talking about Celtic but Sportsound and the BBC Sport Scotland website are the only places dedicated to Scottish Football rather than the likes of Sky who will give scottish football 5 mins of time on the Sky Sports News channel every 4 hours on rotation.

Sportsound badly needs some x-players who have a strong connection to Celtic.

Now I remember why I haven't used 606 for years.

 

Over the last few years I've enjoyed watching the paranoid tag being stolen by der huns as they seek to blame everyone else but themselves for their club's demise. It seems that there are still pockets of the Celtic support who cling to the old ways, seeing conspiracy theories and bias where none exist.

The reason Aberdeen and Dundee Utd are getting so much coverage is because they are doing well and challenging Celtic for the title - Aberdeen are the current table toppers after all. Rangers get more coverage than us? It's hardly ****ing surprising seeing as the club lurches from one disaster to another on a near daily basis.

The only newsworthy thing that Celtic have done over the past wee while is expressed an interest in another player. Hardly "hold the front page" news is it?

Ok let's take your point's one by one...

Paranoia has nothing to do with it. That's a cop out. The evidence is there, Celtic do not get anywhere near as much coverage as they deserve. In any other league in the world the celebrate/promote their top clubs which makes sense because they have the most fans and therefore will gain better viewing/listening figures. In this country we're bitter so if anyone or any club has more success than the others we don't like them and do what we can to "get one over on them".

Secondly, as I said this is over 5-10 years not just this season. Also on that point, it's not that other teams (There's more than just Aberdeen and DU up there) are doing well, it's that Celtic are horrendous this season which is a completely different conversation. There is no "title challenge", it'll simply be Celtic sitting as winners at the end of the season by at least 15 points. And the Rangers point... they've been going from one disaster to another for about 4 years now, people are bored of it.

Yes, you're right it's not hold the front page stuff. Terror attacks etc quite rightly have their place on the front page mate. But top of the BBC Sport Scotland news list it should be! 100%! Shaun Maloney is not moving to a team in Scotland so why is that the top story? Henri Anier "May" sign for DU so why is that above our story? etc. The Celtic transfer story where they have asked permission to enter into contract talks with a highly rated Scottish player IS without doubt the biggest story of yesterday and today do you not agree?

So then why was it punted down the pecking order even to the point of not being on the site this morning?

 

Current BBC Scotland Football page. Top story? Celtic. Three additional stories relating to Celtic also listed.

 

The Mackay-Steven story wasn't there this morning and neither was the Deila thing. But this doesn't prove anything. Obviously I'm not saying Celtic are never top story. I'm saying there's a general lack of coverage for Celtic, mainly on Sportsound due to Richard Gordon and his cronies.

I never listen to BBC Scotland, it's awful and has been for years. Radio Snyde is'nt great but it's better than the BBC pish.

 

The only radio station I listen to is XFM in the car...
