3rd attempt at a trial Ex-Leeds United player ‘raped woman in hotel and filmed her naked on his phone’ Youth team player Lenighan is accused of raping a woman at a city centre hotel and filming the attack. Ross Parry/ Tom Maddick A FOOTBALLER joined a friend in the rape of a young woman at a hotel room and then filmed her naked on a mobile phone, a jury heard. Simon Lenighan, 20, was a youth player with Leeds United when he is alleged to have carried out the attack with Nathan Campbell in August 2012. Their alleged victim was naked and alone when she was woken up by a chambermaid at the Etap Hotel in Leeds the following morning and had no idea where she was or how she got there, the prosecution said. Her mobile phone and money were missing and she alerted police who found video footage on Campbell’s mobile phone, the court was told. Simon Lenighan was arrested for rape and interviewed by police. Later, when Campbell found out about Lenighan’s arrest, he sent a message to the woman on Facebook which said: “Are you serious?” Campbell went on to phone the woman and tell her that he was a professional football player and that she was ruining his career. He also told her about the video but assured her it was not embarrassing and he had to take it because he was a footballer and people may try and blackmail him. Mr Haslam said: “She then started to apologise.” Following these conversations the woman told Campbell that she would tell the police that the investigation should cease. However, Campbell was arrested. Lenighan, of Harrogate, denies three charges of rape and one of perverting the course of justice. Campbell, of Bradford, denies three charges of rape and one of perverting the course of justice. The trial continues.
I thought it was an established judicial precedent that any Leeds player on trial had to be tried anywhere but Leeds, on the basis that it would be impossible to get a fair trial (i.e. the players would get off, whatever). So what's the difference between this lad & Bowyer/Woodgate? 1st team appearances?
We have improved a lot since the first part of the season. How lucky were we when we played Bolton last October
I believe the lad's moved on to Harrogate Town, so difference being not high profile perhaps? IF FOUND GUILTY, sounds worse than Chad Evans
Afternoon all, seems like Clarke Carlisle is awake from his coma. Good news, hope he has a full recovery not nice depression. Personally I would have kept Warnock till the end of the season, I think the "constant moaning" comment will relate to when he complained to the PFA about not being picked. I had a lot of time for Cellino to begin with but more and more recently he just sounds like Bates in disguise. Selling our better players and replacing them with cheaper/lesser models or loan players. At the end of this season how many players will go back to their official clubs, what will that mean for us next season having to bed in a load more new players. Cellinos comments to the Sun today saying the Championship is a stronger league than Seria B. Why then does he feel the need to fill our squad full of Seria B players as they clearly aren't/won't be up to the task.
Charlie Hebdo front page from today's issue. You might want to make WJ's post just now part of your morning thread tomorrow.
Elland read this. Note the likely decision an cement is now next week. http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co....koning-dawns-for-cellino-and-whites-1-7050511
