Good Morning Everyone, Leeds have decided to abandon their plans re se sign becchio and look at Italy instead Anybody else shocked? Albanian striker Edgar Cani, a 6’4” centre-forward apply's his trade at Serie B side Catania. Cellino has been speaking to the YEP about Stephen Warnock and his impending move to Derby. 'Warnock asked me on Saturday for two more years of contract. I said 'we will see at the end of the year," Cellino told The Sun Newspaper 'When a player is 30, they will only get a year-by-year contract — that is my rule. 'He is older, lives in Liverpool and refused to move to Leeds — and is often complaining. So I am happy for him.' If you or I were an employer, could we get away with speaking about an employee this way? Our 21 side lost 3-0 at Birmingham last night. What is going on there???
Morning Elland, from a chilly 21C Qatar. If Warnock does not want to commit to Leeds then fine, get what we can from him, because when you get itchy feet and there is a better prospect in the pipeline then his commitment may be an issue. As for speaking to employee's that way, i would of put it a bit different and it would not of been able to go public with it.
Firstly Redders needs to be back with the kids or we need a new kids coach. Last results have been dire and we shipped loads of goals, very unlike the norm. Secondly Warnock is getting on and is a higher wage earner, and although he's been playing well, he seems to be doing it due to trying for a new contract or putting himself in the shop window. Will be sorry to see him go but good luck to him, and Cellino has issues with translation so don't think he tried to call him a greedy, old, moaning fooker who refuses to relocate closer to the club as was the instruction for all in the summer. Makes me wonder if Redders blotted his copy book with Cellino when he made him captain?
Morning all - Cellino had no intention of getting a single target of Redfearns, I am not surprised in the slightest, that isn't to say I want Becchio back, just not surprised. Usual thing from Cellino, a player who the fans are divided on gets bad mouthed although this time not as badly. A year by year contract at the age of 30, well if I was Warnock I would feel like I had won the lottery with Derby stepping in. I was going to say I lose more and more respect for Cellino as the months pass by, actually fact is I don't think I have any left to lose. I am sitting on the wall about relocating to Leeds, kids and family settled, you like the area, they have friends and their schools, it isn't that easy a decision not when you can suddenly become surplus to requirements. Cellino made the decision about relocating in the summer, imagine you are Warnock contract expires in 12 months time, Cellino tells you we will review your contract at the end of the season, would you consider moving? It would probably take 12 months to sell your home and find a new one!!
Morning Doc, For the u21's to go from one parallel to another is unacceptable. It is certainly the right time to get rid of Warnock. He isn't going to get any better. He's only going to go downhill. I thought Cellino made a rule when he came in that all Leeds players had to live in Leeds. I hear Bardsey is quite nice...
Morning ristac, I think if we had been at the other end of the league table, we'd be hanging on to Warnock for dear life, but although steady in this division, he's never going to set the world alight.. Its good to see another youngster replacing him. We now have Byram, Taylor, Mowatt and Cook as more or less first team regulars, and Dawson, Killock, Cairns, Phillips and Walters all in the first team squad. The oldest player there is Byram, who's only 21. We need to keep these kids, and improve them. Shame we don't have a really good coach.
Good morning from a chilly Cote der Bardsey where we have had a light sprinkling of snow over night Oh ye of little faith Ristac give me MC anyday after BATES and the other milkers Warnock was a big earner it was obvious that MC wanted rid of him last summer so its no surprise he has to go .What hasn't surprised me is Charlie Taylor he will do a great job I just hope we will be able to keep him For once I am not sold on Cani I dont think he will be any better than Matt Smith so why not get him back at least he knows whered the net is! Others to go well White will now leave in summer as he his still injured Norris the forgotten one will probably be paid off Pearce well that could be interesting I think if a fee was involved he would be allowed to goand Austin will go if we find a suitable replacement again for a fee .This is perely my opinion and I have not been affected by press TV ot other media sources its what I think! Good to see petrol will be 99.9 at Asda next week!
Spot on Elland. Loads of snow and treacherous roads round my way. The problem we continue to have is there are currently 39 teams in a better league position than us and I suspect far more financially. Like it or not, every one of our players are available for transfer. Its not a case of us holding on to anyone because we have nothing to offer them in terms of large wages or promotion prospects. So whether its Warnock, Byram, Cook or whoever, they will all go eventually. How soon depends on how soon they generate interest. As fans, weve just got to suck it up and as usual pretend to ourselves, we will be stronger after theyve gone. Sound familiar?
Morning Mike, Charlie Taylor has done well over last couple of games, but can he do it week in, week out?
Morning all, Hats off to Cellino for being so open on the Warnock situation. We as fans ask for such transparency. So why criticise Cellino for doing what we want? It's not as though he's given out Warnock's credit card number & PIN, is it? Warnock clearly knew what Derby were offering, then put a gun to Cellino's head on Saturday. Didn't work. Cellino appears to have introduced a very sensible (and common) wage structure for players over 30 - and he's sticking to it. I suspect that this was not news to Warnock or his agent, and also suspect that Saturday's approach to Cellino was not the first. Shame to lose his leadership & experience on the field, but the hint is there that all was not well off-field. I wonder what he was complaining about all the time? As for him living in Liverpool, I just wonder if our new player contracts stipulate living in Leeds. Therein may lie the core of the problem for Warnock, and with a settled family environment, I cannot fault him for his decision.
Morning all Like WJ, I actually like the openness of Cellino there. If he talked about a current player that way then I can see that it might have scope for causing issues, but as it is, I think thats just a confirmation that Warnock is going. As for Cellinos terms for players, I can't help but think he's got the right intention but he's going about it all of the wrong way. The idea that at 30 a player is starting to be on their way out isn't necessarily a bad thing, but you have to have to the quality younger players who have already been blooded ready to step in. We don't have that, and even if Taylor plays every game from now until the end of the season, we won't have that. As for his obsession with people living in Leeds, well I wouldn't want to commute from Liverpool (and not just because of the long drive... ).
Morning all ... Warnock going is the right thing, it is Taylor's time to develop now, and we have a real gem on our hands who I think may well even become a left winger, very talented and a sweet left foot ... as for Cellino's comments, just plain stupid really, because it's not what we think, it's what the players think ... imagine being in a dressing room where you know you have an inconsistent owner who will not hesitate to assassinate you publicly ... not only can it affect morale, but it surely must influence potential signings about coming to Leeds ... the "live in Leeds" thing is fine if it's players coming from abroad, but for English lads it may not be that cut and dried where they have young families to consider ... Cellino's behaviour has been idiotic far too often, and although he's putting money in I am still not convinced he is our saviour, because there is just too much of a circus around him, and like it or not it must have some effect on the squad
Well Billy lets wait and see but I am a firm believer as you know in giving youth a chance and not getting players that have come for their last payday and in any case they have no resale value
Can't say I agree with you, Billy, but won't go there as I've already expressed my view. The one thing you mentioned that caught my eye was the view that Taylor might make it as a winger (a la Byram?). I've never considered that to date, but will now start assessing him. You might be on to something there, going by what I've seen to date. Can't wait for Saturday to get started!
Afternoon all Let's actually translate Celino's comments properly. It is 'I'm creating a bullshit excuse just to get rid of Warnock,' I didn't want him here in the first place and now I've got my way. Is it time for Warnock to go? I would have let him leave at the end of the Season. As for relocating for a 12 month contract. Are you kidding me? I wouldn't up root my children move away from the place I grew up just to be blown off in 12 months time. Read Barry Ferguson's autobiography and he talks about the suffering and unhappiness his family felt when he moved to Blackburn. Worst year in his career. I say well done to Warnock for staying in Liverpool. As for the youngsters let see them get sold off when Celino thinks he can get a price for them that goes with Taylor as well. He must see the likes of Byram and Taylor through pound signs.
