It makes Antonio Valencia the greatest transfer in history. Minus £64 million because we bought him to replace Ronaldo. Or Mario Balotelli was minus £59 million as a replacement for Suarez.

Although even Balo was -£59m, Liverpool still got shafted <laugh>

    Cheers mate <ok>

    Doesn't look good does it?

Maybe we thought we were getting Espas, and bought Aspas by mistake.

    Wouldn't surprise me.

For someone of Torres' quality, that is **** all. The guy was the best striker in World football for a period of 2 years, he was on a downwards curve and we got rid at the right time in hindsight.

    BUMP

I thought after a full month where some stuff has changed (an not) that taking another look at opinions on players might be useful.

I have noticed that doing a table seems hard in this new format. I don't know how to fix OP yet

    anyway the orginal said:

    Fabio Borini miss
    Joe Allen Miss
    Oussama Assaidi Miss
    Nuri Sahin Miss
    Samed Yesil Miss

    Daniel Sturridge Hit
    Philippe Coutinho Hit
    Carlos Teixeira Has potentia

    Luis Alberto Miss

    Iago Aspas Miss
    Simon Mignolet Miss
    Kolo Toure Debateable
    Aly Cissokho Miss
    Mamadou Sakho Miss
    Tiago Llori Miss
    Victor Mosses Miss

    Rickie Lambert Debatable
    Adam Lallana Debatable
    Emre Can Has potential
    Lazar Markovic Miss
    Dejan Lovren Miss
    Divick Origi Has potential
    Javier Manquillo Debateable
    Alberto Moreno debateable
    Mario Balotelli Miss

    25 players
    Total Cost £212,730,000
    9% Hit Ratio
    5/23 value for money

So really... Should we be up rating sahko on his return. is it too soon? is his injury record too worrying to yet call him a success given his brief run of good form.

Is anyone else showing better than this list shows? manquillo, moreno? markovic?

For me the list is still damning. only Sahko form summer 2013 has any chance to be called a hit. Only moreno and can really can be long term successes at LFC and both are just coming in and on the fringes.(lallana is simply too lightweight for me) though markovic has shwon good touches recently but as a wing back so....

    what you guys think now?

Another month is still no time at all to make judgements, but Markovic has now shown his definite potential in a couple of games and cannot be considered a miss. Can is effectively established as at least useful and possibly excellent (in any case worth his fee). Lallana is also more hit than debateable. Moreno and Manquillo are hits (improved the squad).

`sahko has come in and looked a lot better than lovern..... markoivc as you say looks like at lest he should be called potential not a miss. Can as you say too has shown something...

    thats a lot of change.

its a case that ok over the past period rodgers has found some system to make the best of it, its got a lot of weaknesses but the players like henderson, coutinho and stelring look better but sahko and can have come in and done well so is it a case of luck or more settling down and eventually the chances come for guys to prove something.

For me the current hits, when put into context of the job they were signed to do, are:
    Sturridge
    Coutinho
    Sakho
    Toure
    Can
    Markovic
    Moreno
    Lambert

The players who at a minimum are very useful players for the squad (though some to expensive) are (these may be hits in years to come):
    Allen
    Lallana
    Manquillo

We have no clue on Ilori, Alberto, and Origi.

Texeira was signed by Dalglish so thats an error in the article.

I'd say Manquillo is a hit. He's been brilliant defensively every time he's played and I don't understand why he does not play him more often.

Lambert is debatable but as you say, in the context of value and expectation, he's done 'ok'. But personally I think he's leaning towards miss more than anything.

But overall, the committee have signed some talented youngsters which can build the crux of this side. Rodgers now needs to build this side around them and not keep prioritising the likes of Skrtel, Lucas (he's done well but doesn't have a future) and Gerrard.

This team doesn't need experienced players - it needs quality.

Allen? a hit? Are you Brenden in disguise.
Markovic? 2 decent games doesn't make you a hit. Even Samuel E'too has had more than 2 decent games. At 20m, two decent games is terrible. (I followed him at Benfica and i can see that hes got massive potential though). I agree with MITOs assessment with him.
Can has only just started but has looked solid. Agree with MITO
Toure a hit? this clown from last year whos only redeeming himself this year as a leader because you signed more clowns. No thanks
Moreno, again potential but his defending is Johnson-esque
Lallana? for 25m he's not been a hit. He's bang average for 25m

Allen is a useful player who can control a game and is a good addition to our squad.

    Markovic is 20. Eto'o is 47.

For £0m our squad is better with Toure than without it.

    Moreno has lots of potential.

    Lallana improves us.

It's very early to judge a lot of the players so you can either be a **** and call them a miss because we haven't won the league yet, or be a supporter and call them a hit until you think they have nothing to offer us and almost anyone else would be better.

    1. How have what i said differ too much from what MITO yet my post gets picked up on
    2. We will just have to disagree on Allen, but for 15m and the fact that half the liverpool board slate him, he is limited and poor buy. for 15m much better players could have been picked up(see Can at 10m)
    3. Judging them early as hit or miss is exactly what you are doing. By all means support them on the day but this is a forum. Surely honesty is a better policy than being blind to our players abilities
    4. Markovic has only had 2 decent games out of how many? granted he hasn't had a proper run in the team. I've already stated i think he'll be a brilliant player, but judging him on whats happened so far means that he isn't a hit by any stretch of imagination. Especially when you consider 20m was spent on him. As for his comparisson with E'too, E'too is over the hill and past it but even he has put in more decent performances than Markovic which was entirely my point
    5. Just because Toure was free and improves the squad (this year) does not mean he is a hit. It just shows how poor the defence has been this season. He was a miss last season because he was just that, a clown with numerous mistakes and errors
    6. Moreno as you said has lots of potential, but he at the moment he does not cut it.
    7. Lallana improves us? Debateable hence Rodgers has barely started him in games. for 25M he is a definite flop. if he was 5m he'd probably be in the hit column. He's done about as much this year as that big haired mop at United and they cost about the same.
    8. Lastly, i'm not a Liverpool supporter.

Allen is not, and never will be an especially good player.

He's a 6/10 player who ideally I wouldn't have on the bench let alone first 11.

We massively overpaid for him and he will never make back his value in future sales.

    Very optimistic/debatable.

For a start those neutral 'loan' players still cost us money.

There are holes everywhere and you've not factored in how much we've paid for these 'hits' in comparative to relative success.

Out of Rodgers' 7 available summer signings (i.e. not Origi) 5 of them started in the 2-1 win against Champions Man City

The other two (Balotelli and Lambert) were on the bench

MOTM was possibly Allen, another Rodgers signing

Players who weren't signed by Rodgers:
    Sterling (massive development under Rodgers)
    Henderson (made captain under Rodgers)
    Skrtel

    Update from last time:

    #players i'd like to hit

Joe Allen (£15m) he's as brittle as F. he played ok for a few games last year wihihc coincided with SAS being on song... but this season he's been short of fitness and pis poor... He's just got fit. which means he's playing better but still... Oh i'd punch him.
Adam Lallana (£25m).. one trick pony who leaned said trick off tv watching johan cryuff videos. one paced,, light weight.... blah blah blah. Still the same. one trick player, lightweight.
Alberto Moreno (£12m)... FFS learn to defend... has been repsonsible for a shed loads of goals by letting lads run off him in the box... defenders must defend...... better so far different position. still struggling when under pressure might move to 3rd category.

#Players who did a job (just about justifying wages)
    Kolo Touré (free)

#expensive lads who might succeed if they keep it up
Emre Can (£9.75m) I'd move him to hit as of now
Lazar Markovic (£19.8) Still has more to do.

    #hits
    Daniel Sturridge (£12m)
    Philippe Coutinho (£8.5m)
    Mamadou Sakho (£15m)
    Javier Manquillo (loan)

    #miss
    Fabio Borini (£10.4m)
    Luis Alberto (£6.8m)
    Iago Aspas (£7m)
Simon Mignolet (£9m) better but still....... same issues in his game
    Rickie Lambert (£4.5m)
Dejan Lovren (£20m) might get another chance to make it if he works on it
    Mario Balotelli (£16m)
    Oussama Assaidi (£3m)
    Nuri Sahin (loan) Loan ended
    Aly Cissokho (loan) Loan ended
Tiago Ilori (£7m) injured twice on loan.
    Victor Moses (loan) Loan ended

    #neutral
    Samed Yesil (£1m) Youth
    João Carlos Teixeira (£0.83) Youth
    Divick Origi (£9.8m) Unseen

So we will see...... Some guys might make it out of miss category if they can work hard and maybe markovic and moreno can keep working hard and prove to be real hits as the season goes on.

All in all.... those who don't give up and keep working hard get more chances to make themselves a success at the club.

The list of guys who joined lfc and gave up is long. theres a few on that miss list and the list is littered form prior managers too....

Lesson: keep working hard and take your lumps.
