Here's a new one to put up there with the hand of God, the decision to not allow Lampard's goal in the England v Germany match last summer, Graham Poll's three yellows in a game without sending the player off and Atwell's phantom goal. It happened in the match between Australia and Equatorial Guinea, the Aussies were going forward, they had a shot that came back off the woodwork and the Guinea defender actually caught it and chucked it back to her keeper. The ref just allowed them to play on. See video.
The ref doesn't appear to be anywhere near, to see what happens (only appears in view as the game is played on)!
Yeah, but the defender is facing in the direction of the referee with the ball in her hands, so what was the referee watching whilst there was goal mouth action if it wasn't the ball? Assistant referee should also have been in an ideal position to see it.
Yeah, Ricardo, but I wasn't making excuses for the ref. There is no excuse, as far as you can see. Not for either of them.
Was just watching England Ladies v Japan, some terrible decisions in that too, clear corners that you couldn't believe they didnt give!
Do you mean you think if Andy Gray had waited until next season he could have used this tournament to show that his comments weren't sexist, they were right.
The Womens World Cup should be compared by Graham Norton in a Tongue-in-cheek manner, it is to football what Eurovision is to music. You'll see better quality football at your average Sunday League game.
I've now watched two England Womens games and two Womens FA Cup finals, I keep expecting the quality to improve, but outside of a couple of half decent players, it's really quite pantomime most of the time. It's not sexism, it's just poor entertainment, there's still plenty of things Womens do better than men. Like stripping.
