What's all this crap about Henderson? Apart from run around a lot, he's done precious little of any account so far this season. His tackling is poor bur on about a par with his passing and shooting i.e. sub-standard. He's certainly no Gerrard and is certainly not a leader.
JS, your getting about as bad as Tobes in actually reading what is posted! Balotelli was a 'bargain' buy -even odgers said "at that price how could we say no!" I'm sure that Lambert was a 'necessary' in the Lallana deal. Borini we would have got rid of - if he would only go!! Having said that, it was clear that Rodgers always wanted to play a front 2 of Sturridge and Balotelli with Sterling and Coutinho snipping from deeper. The flaw was the over-reliance upon Sturridge.
Agreed that is an over reliance on Sturridge, and our strategy was based on that. So we signed a player because the price was too good and signed another player because we HAD to. Hence, it's an indictment on our transfer recruitment - because we should have signed players who fit our system. So perhaps you need to what I wrote a little more clearly.
Happy to take the win. We should have won by more but yet again we weren't taking our chances and we gave Sunderland a chance of getting something from the game. I don't think the referee had a great game. Yes he tried to let the game flow but he also made a few poor decisions and dished far too many cards out too. We should have had a penalty in the opening minutes. The red card was harsh, yes the player puts his arm across but quickly pulls away and doesn't really do a lot else. Although Coutinho was retreating for the second freekick, he was still clearly intentionally blocking the path so it should have been a second booking following the actions taken for the first.
Didn't catch the game but obviously pleased with the win - I have I down as 0v0 or 1v1. How was the performance lads? Rodgers says "outstanding" but anyone got an honest appraisal?
Markovic MotM ripping them apart They are lucky / we should be worried that we didn't score loads more
I think he clipped his heels (twice?) as he tried to catch him- it wasn't just the arm. It wasn't easy to see on the slo-mo. I don't agree about Coutinho- he was walking away and the lad hit the ball deliberately at him imo, to try and get a second yellow for him. Correct decision in my book.
saint, the first free kick wasn't really a booking either. The Sunderland player had no real intention of playing the ball he just wanted to get Coutinho booked.
I think it's something refs should do more often tbh. It annoys me when players do it, and a great many do 'pretend' to walk back but clearly infront of the ball - or they have to run over the ball on their way back to defend. Yeah, it's deemed 'clever' to allow time for the defense back into shape, but I wouldn't allow it personally and think as soon as the whistle goes, defending players should be 10yards away so as not to interfere. It stops quick attacking plays against lazy teams or those losing concentration.
Yeah its a similar story this season of not putting the ball away, or getting enough goals and then coming under pressure and leaking goals. As crap as we've been at times this season, we are in the mix for those 4th-6th places somehow. Just need a striker! A lot of pressure on Danny when he comes back. I'm looking forward to his return as I think he will enjoy the responsibility and feeling of being No.1. A clean sheet too!!
I said at the beginning of the season we should have gone for Bony. Instead we spunked money on Balotelli. Now Citeh are after him!!!
Fair enough if the heals where clipped, I didn't see that He may well have hit the ball at Coutinho but Coutinho had no intention of retreating. As I said before, because the ref as booked him for the first, he has to do the same for the second #consistency
That may be but the opposition player should retreat, Coutinho had no intention of doing so. If players in the wall encroach at freekciks they get booked, its the same principle.
