No sign of A4L, so I'm back in the saddle. Did I say saddle? I meant harness. Charlton: Etheridge, Solly, Wiggins, Ben Haim, Bikey-Amougou, Wilson, Cousins, Jackson, Gudmundsson, Vetokele, Tucudean Subs: Dmitrovic, Gomez, Onyewu, Church, Fox, Watt, Muldoon Brighton: Stockdale; Bennett, Greer, Dunk, Calderon; Holla, March, Forster-Caskey, Ince; Baldock, Mackail-Smith Subs: Walton (GK), Hughes, Bruno, Halford,Teixeira, O’Grady, Colunga So the major news is that Wiggins is back. Wilson also starts, whilst new boy Watt makes the bench. COYA!
Thanks Capt. if we have to have fourth choice match presenter, you are the best man for the job. And I know you will contribute lots of unselfish activity later in the thread. Consider yourself Simon Church to A4L's Vetokele! Great to see Wiggins back for his sake, but odd that he hasn't been given at least one match with the Development Squad first. He has been out a long time. An indictment of Fox that they are rushing Wiggins straight back into the team. On the OS, Bob says "we must get back to basics and do what we do best." I assume that means we will play for a draw. No more hints lately from the management about challenging for promotion or even the play-offs, and they have even dried up from the rose-tinted brigade here. I think it has finally sunk in that we are in a relegation fight, regardless of what the table might say, in which case a point would be useful. I see we are starting again with Tucudean, so I am forecasting a 0-1 defeat. They have Baldock and Mackail-Smith up front who are not paticularly threatening this season, though so we might snatch a 0-0 draw if we play with ten in our own half all match. I like the starting midfield, but both Jackson and Gudmundsson tend to fade, and Muldoon is the only midfielder on the bench so he could make a cameo debut towards the end. Munns is presumably not fit.
Panic in the Charlton box as Etheridge is unable to claim the ball under pressure, but eventually the danger is cleared.
Can anyone remember a league game that they thought we would win at this point in the match? More to the point, how about they thought we would win, and then we won! Must be going back to the last promotion season for me, I'm sure I sometimes thought we would win then.
I thought we would win away to Rotherham but we didn't. Cured me of rash optimism. Pigott starts for Southend. Hope he gets a hat-trick. Time to listen to the commentary, have a snack and shower, then off to the beach for a date with a couple of 19-year-olds. Bit chilly here in the Dominican Republic. Will barely make 80 Fahrenheit today.
You're meeting a couple of nineteen year olds and you worry about the weather? Your priorities are in sad shape B&M !
Anyway, back to the game. Bikey has a chance with his left foot in the box from a free-kick but the keeper saves his effort.
Wiggins does well down the left and plays a cross in towards Tucudean, and eventually it comes to Wilson, who flicks it over the bar.
We're under way again. Charlton attacking the Covered End this half. Jackson off, Gomez on at half-time.
