I agree with most of that Sparks. But I would pick Peter King instead of Robin Friday as he wouldn't turn up anyway.
This was my first year watching City proper! Although I did nick over the wall as a younger tit the season before as I recall! Alan McIntosh I remember well, very nice chap, Alan Harrington and Colin Baker lodged in a house in our street...good players! Don't think Alan Durban was any good at this time...or Sparkey might say ever!
I thought I had been following the City for a long time but not as long as this! My first game was 1970 or thereabouts, but didn't go down regularly until 75/76. The first game I can vividly recall was the European game v Berlin when Don Murray blasted over the penalty in the shoot out to send us out.
Johnny Vincent. 66 games for the city with 11 goals to his credit...another favourite with the fans, joined with a physical George Smith as I recall.
Talk about players I wish we still had, I remember our old friend Blue Prophet always talking about manager Jimmy Scoular. A tough craggy scot, I wonder what he could have achieved with a few quid off Vincy baby! James "Jimmy" Scoular (11 January 1925 – 19 March 1998) was a Scottishfootball player and manager. Known as a tough, combative player with precise passing skills,[2] Scoular made over 600 appearances in The Football League with Portsmouth, Newcastle United and Bradford Park Avenue, as a player-manager, and attained nine caps for Scotland in a playing career spanning nearly twenty years.[3] Following his retirement from playing, Scoular went on to manage Cardiff City and Newport County.
A true Gentleman is Don Murray. Had the honour of playing for Dinas Powis when The Don was manager. Even in his later years he could still scare the **** out of you with one of his stares.
Derek "Danny" Showers? He was not very good, but tried his best. Bit like Le Fondre then Or in fact on a second viewing is that Paul Went? He was a fearsome character.
First up I thought it was Went. One of my favourites. A bit like Joe Dwyer but without the finesse. Not many forwards liked coming to Ninian Park when the two of them were playing together. In one game he made a diving header from around the penalty spot and it cleared the half way (he was defending). In another he dislocated his shoulder. They took him off on a stretcher but he kept sitting up to watch the game. Back in the days of 1 sub. He tried to come back on as well. Don't make them like him any more!
Ah, Derek Showers - reminded me of the England V Wales match at Wembley in 1975 which resulted in a 2-2 draw after Wales were leading for a while with Toshack getting a goal and Showers coming on as sub. Great atmosphere - interesting in the coach park after too! http://www.11v11.com/matches/england-v-wales-21-may-1975-233247/
and yet another - this guy was famous for laying off the ball to who to score one of the best ever goals at Ninian park. Who scored it?
