Why another Spurs-trained winger is what QPR need to beat the drop
The R’s savoured a modicum of joy in loaning Andros Townsend in 2012/13, but this young Belgian is a more promising prospect.

Adding to his squad on a shoestring budget is proving hard work for Harry Redknapp and
QPR.
As the R’s boss receives rejection after rejection, it’s possible he’s starting to regret spending all that money on 30-something loans last season, but in Paul-Jose M’Poku, he may have found a sound solution to the west Londoners’ attacking quandaries.
Of course, the Standard Liege left winger has worked with Redknapp in the past, having started his career at
Tottenham, which bodes well for the Super Hoops.
The last wide man they borrowed who cut his teeth in the Spurs academy was Andros Townsend.
His temporary arrival in the 2012/13 campaign couldn’t save QPR from
Premier League relegation, but the pace and verve he injected revitalised their attack.
Two goals and one assist aren’t overwhelming figures, but averages such as four dribbles and 2.9 shots per game offered a previously absent element of directness to their play.
M’Poku is made of similar stuff.
Lauded for his running prowess and sharp eye for goal, found the net ten times in 33 outings for the Belgian Pro League side last term.
Aside from Charlie Austin, Dutch midfielder Leroy Fer is the only other R’s player to score more than a solitary goal this season, so M’Poku’s penchant for bulging the onion bag is much needed.
His ability to hassle the scorekeeper isn’t the only way the Zaire-born winger can augment the QPR artillery though.
Fer, their most adventurous midfielder by a long way, is often tasked to play out of position on the left flank as Redknapp attempts to stifle the opposition by crowding the middle of the pitch with holding players.
In brining in M’Poku, they could restore Fer to his rightful berth in the centre and the speed the pair possesses would make the team a much greater threat on the counter attack.
He’s 6/4 to sign for QPR before February 3rd 2015.
