    Well.

    he followed us online.

He said in 2014 his future wasn't certain.

His manager has come out today and refused to confirm/deny anything.

his president is having a press conference tonight.

his club are undoubtedly going down the pooper, luis Enrique has apparently lost the changing room, and they can't sign anyone for 12 months.

his squad contains both suarez and neymar who can easily cover him-but in reality can't play in the same team.

finally, he's won EVERYTHING at barca. He holds all the records and could be getting bored.

I know it sounds crazy, but....

could we sign the best player in the world this summer!?!

    No.

Nice to dream but would be far too expensive even for a player of his obvious ability.

The only thing in our favour is that it would mean he wouldn't have to face us again and be in the pocket of whatever full back we happen to have playing that day ;)

I personally can't see it. Great as he is, we'd have to completely reinvent the team style to accommodate him, and that's something we really don't need to do now!

    Hey up guys,

Sorry, I wandered over here to see if you had a thread about us possibly signing Salah, and thought I'd throw my two-pence in here

Sadly, I don't think a Premier League club will ever sign Messi. He'd only go to one of the Champions League contenders, and between his wage packet and transfer fee (he won't come for less than £100 million, I don't think), no team will ever be able to square that with European FFP.

I'm not sure when his contract is up (I think it's 2018?), but I really can't see them selling him on the cheap until there's 6 months left. And a lot can change in 3 1/2 years.

As much as I'd like to see him in the Premiership. I think he might be looking for either a new contract, or possibly by the sounds of things using you to put preassure on the board to get rid of Luis Enrique.

Ps, don't choke on your coffee. That was a QPR fan talking about FFP...!

He always said he wanted to play for a British team and get the **** kicked out of him week in week out on frozen pitches for 4 months a year for a team who can't make the Europa cup <laugh><laugh>

Jose and Chelsea have spent plenty, buying and shaping a team for the future that doesn't need the import of superstars every year to succeed. It's all about balance , and only needing regular tweaking to stay at the top. Messi would make all that work redundant, and I think we can forget about ever seeing him at the Bridge in a Chelsea shirt. Besides , he's going to be past it in a couple of years, and we've got all our superstar kids coming on !!

Indeed, Ronaldo will never go back to Utd so they will need a shirt seller to keep the yanks ailing sports teams and malls buoyed up. I mean out of the present crop would buy a shirt with D-Minus or sick note on?

First of all Messi is not the best player in the world, he hasn't been for a couple of seasons now. Secondly there is no chance he will leave Barcelona any time soon.

Finally I believe any big money deal for Messi would be a bad idea for any PL club. The guy whilst still a quality player hit his peak a few years ago and has been in a slow decline of late. So if your talking 100 million pound plus, then it would be a bad investment IMO.

I know it seems silly to say at 27 he is past his best, but performances on the pitch do back it up. It's not unusual with world player of the year players either, look at Ronaldinho and Kaka they where past there peak at a similar age:biggrin:

He is the best IMO, however to pay that amount of money and upset the rebuilding job that the club is undertaking would be a bad move in the long term.
