I had a Sikh friend years ago, a lovely bloke, who said that so much of the worlds past and current problems were and WOULD in the future be down to overzealous, fanatical Muslims trying to ride rough-shod over other countries, citizens and beliefs. Didn't really pay it too much heed at the time but looks like he was right.
So the downward spiral intensifies - atrocity, backlash, atrocity all fuel for the extremists and believers, all fuel for the 'hate all foreigners' tendency. Desperate stuff.
I'm quite sure the French police will take this attack personally, Ellers. Human nature. I also think some heads will roll in the upper echelons of the French Police force since these publishers were a known target for Islamic extremists and the security provided by the police appears to have been lamentably inadequate.
Events like this will happen every week in the future in England. Dont need to be Einstein to work that out
Lets all hold back here...and show some respect at the moment. We know nothing about this...we do not know what people knew, who is even involved.
You would never be able to protect individuals that rightly or wrongly have put themselves in the firing line of any kind of fanatics constantly unless they accept to lose all the freedom they are championing. Here in DK we have Kurt Westergaard, the cartoonist of the most well known of the "offending" cartoons who has had two very real attempts on his life foiled. But they were only foiled because they were at his safe house that he never leaves any way now. Admittedly, the last years through illness, but before that he became a recluse and a prisoner to remain alive. I agree a lot with DT's response although I have no idea whatsoever as to how this vicious circle can ever end peacefully, I'm not even sure if there are not "acceptable" powers/govts on both sides that don't want this to end. What I don't agree with you DT is the not caring of the deaths in other parts of the World. We are humans and as such allowed to behave as such, to be frank someone like your good self, as talented and as dogmatic as you obviously are could easily have been working in such a building. That brings the whole thing closer to home as we can visualize ourselves there and even though these people have never been met, we associate loved ones or at very least our own network with such people. All in all, however anyone wants to paint it, it's a feeding frenzy for the mad and a horror for the loved ones of the murdered.
You remember what happened to Jacques Mesrine? he messed around shooting at police and one morning in Paris he pulls up at a traffic light and the lorry in front pulls up its canapé and police open fire filling him full of bullets and just to make sure the policemen in the car behind runs up to his car and shoots him in the head. These killers are dead men walking.
As for the security of the venue, a woman has said to reporters that she was forced at gun point to open the door with her keycode, the security guards there wouldn't be armed but apparently there was a police bodyguard(don't know how they swung that), he would have probably just had a handgun, not much when faced with three AK47's and an RPG! The most worrying bit is that they got away, they will know that they will be hunted down sooner or later so will either be on their toes out the country already or will be planning another attack fairly quickly!!
The simple truth is we aren't told of the problems in the other pats of this great planet . The news we receive is selected you have to search for it I often do and it's buggering me up. If we hear of it of course it affects us after all we are just the base level of human insulated in a western world that is built like a big comfort blanket. The very price those in Paris paid today was IMO a direct result of poor decisions and greed from the power masters who control us. If we had the respect not to ridicule and joke about a people's belief would this of happened? that is the powerful question I think over the last 15 years many have come to understand exactly what our role has been in fuelling the very situation that now threatens ordinary innocent people. Time we said sorry IMO and admitted our mistakes and try a lot harder to put things right. All we are doing is blaming people and calling them names … how does that solve the threat? The powers that be allow that threat simply because it's a great way of controlling people … it's called fear. Generations are being born hating the west can you blame them? … some of those people take that hate a lot further .. it's statistics and the message programmed out is to never give in to terror … terror and fear is exactly the form we use against our own people. Time to just take a moment to feel for the innocent who have lost people today as the same time think on who exactly was innocent
That woman was one of the artists known as Coco (i think thats the spelling) who should have also been a target. Maybe because she had her child or they didn't know who she was saved her life. How must the poor woman feel letting them in and seeing her work colleagues killed. Horrible.
It seems from the reports that the attack was well planned and well executed … why now go into the blame game on how this could have been prevented. It was a mission for someone somewhere and I suspect the details were carefully thought about.
Not so sure about that DT, agree they must have had knowledge and the seemed comfortable with the weapons and the grouping of bullets in the police car would tell us that they may have had training but remember they needed to ask who the people were before shooting and as i said one of the main cartoonists let them in which tells me they didn't know everything.
They also new it was editorial day and that everybody would be there They knew who they were after, and called out their names...and made a getaway, and there seems no immediate leads Terribly well planned, executed by trained killers Very very hard to stop...so frightening
In the heart of Paris at the moment on business trip. Its scary .Been advised not to leave hotel. Main transport and tourist areas huge security presence. Terrible situation for the innocent people of this great city. Hope this is finished tonight by security forces. A city in fear at the moment
Sorry Dave, some good points but also some less so. Of course the West (and in particular the US, UK and France) are reaping the rewards of the past, and should be doing more to sort this out (though I have no idea how). But the generations who are growing up hating us are poisoned by this ignorant ideology before they are old enough to know better. I refuse to respect their beliefs, why should I, they don't respect them themselves - the vast majority of Muslims who die violently do so at the hands of other Muslims. In the interests of balance, there are plenty of other, non Muslim, ignorant ideologies that I despise equally and refuse to respect. That is just what the cartoonists and writers who died today were doing, though much more bravely than I do - pouring scorn on something that deserves to be scorned. The fact that the only response to this was violence just shows they have no real arguments to make - as soon as they open their mouths it's clear that all they have is hate, fear and ignorance. Actually the way out of this is very long term - education and the economic and social empowerment of women.
