The structure of the club is unlikely to change in whilst Ashley is in charge. Graham Carr identifies players, Charnley does the deal and the 'coach' has to form those players into a team. So for me, whoever is the best 'coach' in the true sense of the word, is the one for me. Managers having a say in all matters or running a club 'from top to bottom' are a dying breed, and extinct at NUFC.

Some decent Coaches amongst them that I would happily see come in.
Ashley doesn't like change and prefers consistency and trust with his managers (in business), which may be why he stuck with Pardew so long.
Whoever, he goes for, he'll be looking for a long-term appointment.

Talking to a Derby fan other day, and they have massive respect and time for Steve McClaren.
He'd be gutted if he was to leave Derby.

Alright, so in spite of clear evidence that the bookies know nowt, we have Remi Garde now as short as evens (shortest odds on anyone yet) and McLaren as far out as 6/1, with the next being 14/1.

Comments out of France suggest it's a conversation waiting to happen, so how do we feel about Remi Garde being the man in charge? Seems ok and I guess he'll get a lot of support because he's a) not English, b) not Carver and c) not Pardew.

I get annoyed at the length of time it is taking, but remember that it was only last week that pardew went and we wernt prepared for it, so I understand a Shortlist needs to be drawn up, candidates interviewed and a final decision made, then undoubtidely a lengthy negotiation where ashley squeezes every penny. I cant see us making an appointment until say mid-next week.

Then the coach will need to make an assessment of the squad, say a week or two. by the time thats complete, the window will be closed.

    Really doesnt look good tbh

Finally looks like this is all coming to an end Garde has admitted he would like to join us, and he's the man they're after. Can't see how a problem will crop up.

This 'coach' business is more common abroad and just because it's not something we're used to in England, doesn't mean it won't work. The idea of a young(ish) coach coming in with the potential of Pochettino or someone similar is quite exciting. I will embrace it.

In all honesty I think this is what we need. We've tried so-called big names British managers in the past and it hasn't really worked out. What about someone who goes quietly about their business, is a good coach who knows the game inside out, and who isn't worried about letting Carr know where he needs to strengthen and leaving the recruitment to him?

I refuse to believe that any manager will have absolutely no say in signings.

It's just people becoming paranoid, I'm not particularly worried.

For those interested (i.e. nobody), Remi Garde has moved further in to odds on favourite with many bookmakers. You can get as long as 12/1 on 2nd Fav Schteve Mclaren. At a guess this seems likely, and I suppose he will/should be spared an embarrassment at Stamford Bridge, then be announced in time for So'ton home where we have a score to settle, a crowd to please and points to get.

just seen this on Twitter - Le Parisien: Remi Garde is Newcastle's #1 manager target and the deal could be done in the middle of next week. GFFN has no confirmation.

De Boer rejected Tottenham last season, can't see a reason he'd ever be interested in us.

Aye very much tongue in cheek my remark. I love all these reliable sources and betting firms with their predictions on our next manager.

If it isn't Carver to the summer at least I'll be very surprised.

I haven't listened to totalsport for a while but why do the mongs want Carver as manager? I swear they screen the calls so only complete ****s who have been lobotomised get through to embarrass themselves on air. Also Howey is a massive fat ****.
