Gerrard was told he wasn't a guaranteed starter anymore so he decided that wasn't good enough for him. how is shearer so blinkered to that fact?
This is what I don't get. All these ex-pros banging on about how we should have done more to keep him, the guy is 34 (35 at the end of the season), he's not going to be starting as many games nor should he be expecting too. Its been clear that he isn't the player he was and at times is holding the team back, the difference between the Swansea and Burnley games showed that. If Gerrard really wanted to stay, he'd accept the drop down to the bench, like Scholes or Giggs did and be content to make the difference from the bench. But obviously Gerrard still feels he can do it and fair play to him if he thinks he can, also credit to him for not playing for a rival team, but he can't be doing that at Liverpool.
