Well done IT, they set out to be hard to beat & have done well to get the replay. No complaints from me, Ron put out a very good team, we just couldn't get the winner.
Apologies in advance but Beefy probably won't like the fact that a "nutter" agrees with him but his comment sums it up exactly for me. Merrington made a lot of Mane being out in his commentary and whilst this was true, the whole mechanics of the performance was dull and looked like a well-oiled machine going through it's paces. It was almost a carbon copy of the WBA game. There were a few positives to take from the match. Davis was Man of the Match by a long chalk and young Isgrove, despite initially misplacing passes, seemed to evolve with the game and certainly add something to the game plan. Gardos showed that he will probably get better with more performances. The player I am perplexed by is Shane Long. There were patches in the game where he showed his class and I like the combative element of his style. However, I think he needs to start getting some more attempts in. At the beginning of the season, I had high hope of him yet he needs to start banging in some goals to corroborate his undoubted quality. Shame that he never really looked like scoring or linking up with Pelle in a match which was perhaps tailor made for this. All in all, I don't think anyone played poorly. It was a flat team performance and maybe overdue after some impressive games of late. I hope the replay doesn't make the week of the Man Utd and Newcastle fixtures too problematic.
Ipswich were organised, defended well, and we were pedestrian with the ball at times. Still, we are in the hat for the next round.
Disappointed with the result as a replay suits neither of us! The Away fans were magnificent and all credit to the Saints for making us feel welcome and I'm mightily impressed by your Stadium. We had some good natured banter with you guys before and after the game which was also top notch. As for the game itself it followed the pattern I expected with you throwing the kitchen dink at us second half. We are a very tough team to beat which shows in the fact that we have lost only once in the last twenty games. Our team worked their nuts off and all credit to Mick and Terry for making us competitive against a very strong Southampton team. This result I think proves that should we be promoted we can be competitive in the PL. For those of you coming up to Suffolk for the replay I hope you have a safe and pleasant journey.
Pretty much sums it up. Lack of cutting edge up front but otherwise well organised. If I was an Ipswich fan I would feel a bit unlucky about going to a replay but some work needed from us on 14th for sure. If 1st team players don't show a bit more in the replay they should be ashamed.
Not sure about unlucky, a little bit of adventure Second half they could have won it, or of course lost it, but Fraser was redundant in the 2nd half, that is never going to earn them a win if they don't get any chances.
