http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/England_national_football_team#Top_goalscorers England's top goal scorers of all time, the only 1 in the top 7 with a worse goal/game ratio than Rooney is Shearer and most of them didn't have the mighty San Marino or Faroe island (no disrespect) to deal with.
Actually, Shearer's not a bad shout for most over-rated... I'm not saying he wasn't good, just not as good as the pundits made him out to be!
Sort of agree with regards to Gerrard, he is a good player, certainly way above average but not world class. I would say Lampard is underrated if anything, excellent player even now. Why do you think Man City wanted to keep him?
Spot on !! I could never understand all the hype around Scholes - couldn't tackle, would always pass sideways, constantly lose out in one-on-one tussles.
I think it would be impossible to get a consensus on here as to what constitutes 'world class'. I'm sure the majority on here would have hours of debate on who is and who isn't world class. Personally, I think Gerard has been a top top player for the last decade or so and deserves all the accolades he gets. Works class, not 100% sure but overrated, you must be joking. I think the loyalty he has given to Liverpool football club is commendable. He played almost all of his career surrounded by inferior plsyers not fit to lace his boots. Lampard IMO, although also a top player, was generally surrounded by top players. I don't think he's anywhere near the same player Gerard is/was. Keane is a totally different animal. He was truly world class IMO but a complete and utter dick.
Strange thread. By definition a 'world class' player would get into any team in his era. I think Gerrard is closer to it than Rooney. I am sure that Gerrard's loyalty, and Rooney's brilliance at blackmailing Utd to pay him more and more have prevented both from demonstrating just how good they are by playing abroad. Though he was a much more limited player, I rate Beckham above both of them.
Robbie Fowler had two or three good season for Liverpool the rest of his career was a big disappointment. For me Gerrard is one best players from the premiership league era
Ronaldinho - Was excellent for 2 or 3 seasons, but got to the top and then pissed his career down the drain by partying, and hence being overshadowed by a 19 year old Messi. Some people say he was better than Messi is now. Not a chance. Oscar - Has the odd amazing game where he runs the show, but is very inconsistent from what I've seen. People get fooled far too easily by the occasional stunning goal. Kasper Schmeichel - Overrated because of his father. I've never seen him make a save that I think Greeno wouldn't have saved. Championship keeper.
I wouldn't go that far. Gerrard had a habit of drifting out of games now and again which can't be said for Keane. He probably had more natural ability than him though. I also thought Marc Nygaard wasn't bad
