    Pulling this off would really make a statement. Secure it early in the window could improve our standing in the eyes of potential targets.
    That said I am only expecting loan deals in January as realistically our main gap is striker competition and they really shouldn't be bought in January!

    Big player, in my opinion. If he accepts I think it'll influence a few other players too. People like Clyne, Morgan, Jay, etc.. might just think that SFC are big enough to stake their long term ambitions on. If he doesn't it might tip them to leave in the summer [providing we don't make the CL].

    Schneiderlin is the best I've seen live. Saw bale et al but they weren't at their current level at the time. Have to agree Toby is pretty high up the list though

    Iv been watching saints since the late 80s and Alderweireld is up there with the best defenders we have had in that time

    Signing Alderwiereld is a crucial bit of business. It is my unbiased opinion, and I do watch a lot of EPL matches, that he is the best center back in the league. Can someone really argue against it? I mean, make a comparison with the other center backs. Only ones who can provide some competition are Chelsea's center backs, but even they conceded more goals while playing for a stronger team. Alderweireld was and is superb and he oozes class. When I watched Koscienly yesterday, who is held in high regard by most Arsenal fans, he was rubbish compared to Alderweireld. Put it simply, if they had Toby in their team yesterday, I don't think we would have scored those goals.

    I did watch the interview of Toby a while back and he was very polite about Saints, he made it quite clear that he would not make any decisions until the end of the season. So am surprised if this is true. If it is true, l would presume that no offer would have been made if Saints thought he would refuse it...

    Its because we know its going to be harder to sign him in the summer. This is a transfer I would love to see happen, but I fear we only have the lad for a year, so go spend those extra pennies & get his name printed.......while you can.

    Was talking to some Arsenal fans about Alderweireld and they are gutted they didn't try to sign him in the summer, because they have no backup for Kos and Mertesacker and he would've been perfect
