I'm probably going to be shot down in flames here with the same old arguments that 'oh they only play 90 minutes' and 'they are played tons of money'. But I really think we need to reduce the number of games around Christmas and have a winter break in January. I don't think it's a coincidence that we lost two players to muscle injuries today. I also think it would help the National Team and teams in Europe. If Germany can have a full month off and sure can work out a way to have at least a two weeks off.
As much as I love it, I agree. Anyone who thinks its just 90 mins ****ing around with a football must think that a 100m sprint is just a quick run. The level they play at, not one person on here can understand the fatigue and problems with it. It really does the players no good whatsoever, and realistically, there's no need for it. However, I suspect it makes the PL a frigging fortune.
I'd leave the ridiculous Christmas schedule as it is then start the Winter break after the FA Cup third round. Three week break. Holiday followed by week's light training on the Algarve.
I agree with this but you can't do this at a lower level as they would struggle without the money they need the cash to flow otherwise i think a few of them would really struggle.
Nonsense. Start the season in November, play 4 games a week and have the league done and dusted by the end on January.
Just get rid of the extra game in between If we have a break they will only go flying off somewhere to play in another country The other night AC and Madrid where tearing at it in Doha
This.... It'll only end up being us that loses out as the team will end up still playing, but somewhere abroad instead. Meanwhile, we are sat at home, football-less, crying, alone, in a cold, dark corner.. Oh, that just me?
Just looking at the last Christmas schedule I saw back in 1965 where 1 sub was allowed. Dec27th Hull, Dec28th London and Hull 1st Jan. Won the league that season and reached the 6th round of the FA cup. Stop the whinging and keep it as it is!
I'm sure it affects the national team. English players look so tired by the end of a season compared to those not playing in the PL. Mesut Ozil is a really good example. He used to be ace until he came to the PL, now his body can't cope with the demands and he looked well off the pace at the WC even in a winning Germany side. At 2010 he was their best player, now at a peak age he's not as good.
Podolski as well. He was miles better before he came to England. All them goals for the eventual world champions and he can't get into Arsenal's team.
Time to make the SKY billions work for us. Going back to burn out. I'm just watching Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders on itvBe. I can tell you these ladies don't have no winter break. Fine athletes at their physical peak.
It is ridiculous, to play on the 26th, 28th and then the 1st is almost laughable. As a fan it's brilliant, I love a boxing day away day and it's great with the games coming thick and fast. I don't see why they don't just play on Boxing day and then new years day and cut out the game in between.
The Bundesliga only has 18 teams. Dropping 2 teams would save 4 weeks and allow a winter break, but which club in the bottom half of the Premier League or top of the Championship would be happy to say that one year 3 teams were relegated but only 1 promoted, , with the added concern that if you survive that you are more likely to get relegated as fewer teams? As far as I know they only have 1 cup competition in Germany so that probably saves a few weeks as well, so it would potentially mean ending the league cup. Realistically, I can't see SKY being in favour of fewer games over Christmas as they will lose revenue, and the money they give to the Premier League clubs outweighs any national interests.
