Amazing performance from Spurs to put five goals past the League leaders.

All 14 players made valuable contributions tonight but Harry Kane was simply outstanding.

We're still not quite there yet but if things continue to improve they way they have been recently, who knows how far this squad can go?

  2. A win against Chelsea is as common as rocking horse **** so always has to be celebrated - and there were a few real positives on display today all over the park.
Kane continues to exceed all expectations and he does seem to have the confidence in his own ability to be able to perform at a high level.
Chadli had a really good game and the goal will do his confidence no harm at all, especially not as he has been a provider for a lot recently.
Eriksen seems to be working on a different level and is linking play brilliantly.
Walker started well but was struggling at the end - as was Bentaleb who was being carried for the last 10. Verts is definitely looking more like the player he promised to be 2 years ago but Fazio is a real enigma: dominant and confident but error strewn and lacking pace...... The jury is still out.
Not a fan of Rose and his defensive frailties surfaced again at times, but he did show his attacking worth and put in some good interception tackles. As Davies offers less going forwards I suppose that they may be a good different option depending on the game.
Paulinho put in a decent shift when he came on and - despite a few misplaced passes - seemed to be well involved with the team, so maybe he might actually have a future? Or maybe another shop window?
Townsend showed great composure with the penalty and looked half decent at times, but still not convinced and he was rightly substituted looking like an accident waiting to happen.

Certainly a great way to start 2015 - and just hope it's not a false dawn......

And on a finishing note, Moanarino continues to whinge about decisions in today's game and openly - and clearly unjustifiably - criticise an official. Dowd isn't on my Xmas card list, but apart from missing the kick in the back on Kane (which will no doubt go unpunished retrospectively) he had a decent game. Wonder whether the authorities will take any action.... <doh>

It's all coming good at the right time and I'm not sure who's going to stop us winning at the moment. Fiorentina is my only slight concern.

What a fantastic way to start the year.

I've been thinking for some time that our very young team with a new coach was likely to improve, but I certainly wasn't expecting this. Of course there will be downs from here on in, and anything can happen, but the team we put out looks impressive for their youth, size, athleticism and skill. They still need time to learn to work together, but it's harder to doubt the quality of some of our young players now.

As fantastic as Kane has been, the key man for me is still Eriksen. Having him in the middle to bring the ball up at pace, make correct decisions and perfect passes, is what is unsettling defenders most. I just found out he had more goals than any other midfielder in the PL in 2014, excluding penalties, that he created the second most chances of any PL player, and that he's run the fourth farthest of any player this season.

I have to say I was surprised at most of the pundits, like Merson, Lawro and Lee Dixon. Most people expected a Chelsea win, but I would have hoped they would have taken a little harder look at the situation. We haven't lost to Chelsea at the Lane in three (?) years. We were on a five game unbeaten run. Chelsea had not done well recently. Surely a sensible prediction would have been a close win for Chelsea or a draw.

Dixon said he thought the matchup of Terry against Kane was to Chelsea's advantage. A young striker with fifteen goals in all competitions versus an old defender who was never that fast? Really?

Merson: "Chelsea will win 3-0 - and I'm being kind to Tottenham here, as Chelsea fans call it ‘Three-point Lane!' If Man Utd were as ruthless as Chelsea are then it would have been 3-0 on Sunday. It is only waiting to happen at Tottenham, believe me, they are waiting to be on the end of something big and I think this will be it."

    :emoticon-0157-sun:

    He got that right, anyway.

Did anybody else apart from me think that we could get a result?

I predicted nothing and was far from certain, but I honestly found myself expecting something good today. All the omens were propitious, and when I tried to run through the matchup in my head, I kept thinking how young a squad we had, how we had rotated a bit, how we were on a good run, how we'd turned around our home form, and how Chelsea were looking a little ragged. I thought the Mourinho outburst might be a good sign as well, that if he was trying to take pressure off his players by drawing it onto himself, they might not be in the best state of mind. I don't know if that answers your question...

Perfectly. Chelsea were looking a little vulnerable since the hard work win against Hull and it remains to be seen now whether their form will change from here on in.

Something else none of the pundits or papers will report tomorrow: Moron's comments about referees plotting against his players backfired - because it gave refs an incentive to actually referee the game fairly, which means diving and cynical fouls get punished.

What really gets me cranky is that the Chav loving media immediately puts it down to them having a bad day, not Spurs playing so well that they looked crap.
Don't know if anyone picked this up, but when they scored their second the commentator said 2-4 not 4-2 bias or what!
Still stunned- going to watch it again later, more relaxed this time<party>

Right. Everything indicated we SHOULD get a result. The question was, was it all trumped by us playing a top team?

Since I've claimed a couple of things I thought I was right about, I'll add something I look to be very wrong about, which is Pochettino getting the team to play his style, including inverted wingers, the high press, and the 4-2-3-1. I wanted him to forget about that, and play a 4-4-2, once I saw he was willing to on occasion, and it seemed to help us play better. Now it certainly looks like he was right to try to get the team to play the style he preferred.

Outstanding performance and still shocked . The best in a couple of years . Totally unexpected but
glorious . Chadli who I always felt was ponderous , was wonderful .
Kane is an inspiration with his determination .
Heaven knows I am not miserable know.
