Happy New Year, everyone, and thanks to Attivo for the sterling preparatory work he does every day.

I tend to keep quiet in the winter because jumping doesn't really engage my attention, but I thought there might be a bet lurking in the undergrowth away from the bright lights of Cheltenham. The overnight 3-1 with PP for MARITO (2.15 Tramore) really looks too big: it's not much more than a year since he ran the Fly to less than a length and a half in the Morgiana (OK, HF was 1/16 and you wouldn't take the form at strict face value), and he might well have won the Jewson the year before. If he was still with Mullins he'd be an 11/8 shot against these, most of whom have their best days well behind them.

I can't interpret the November PTP form, and I agree that his preparation has been unorthodox. But while McBratney isn't an A-List trainer, he shows no signs of being stupid, and I think that Marito is much the likeliest winner of this.

Cheltenham 12:10 - Zeroshadesofgrey 5/2. Has won his 3 starts over hurdles by an aggregate 69 lengths so far and although this is a step up in class again I think on what he has shown he will take a fair bit of beating having beaten a previous winner in the process of them victories by a wide margin and although dropping back in trip I think he has the speed to deal with these here for Neil King and Trevor Whelan.

Cheltenham 1:20 - Ptit Zig 5/4. Won a grade 2 Novice Hurdle last time out beating well regarded Josses Hill easily by 9 lengths, JH was making his debut over fences that day and Ptit Zig had the advantage of experience but it was a good performance and he has the best hurdles form in the book over today's rivals too so with a good round of jumping he ought to take catching.

Southwell 3:45 - Stonecutter 7/4. Won his 3rd maiden start at Southwell for Marco Botti last time out and beat Percys Princess by 1 length that day. Percys Princess has since went on to win a handicap at Wolverhampton by 9 lengths giving a huge boost to that maiden win and off a mark of 76 here I would expect Stonecutter will have enough improvement in him to take this.

Happy punting and happy new year.

In the hope of sharing some new year cheer on this first day of 2015. There is a huge gamble at Cheltenham tomorrow, worth following I reckon.

    Cheltenham
    3.40 Camlann

Happy New Year to all the good people on here.

Happy New Year to one and all. A couple from Cheltenham today for me both each way. Urban Hymn in the Dipper Novices. I was at Cheltenham for his last run and although he was around 12 lengths behind Champagne West they didn't jump anything up the home straight and I thought he was the most impressive of these at his fences. Today he's 8lbs better off and with no sunshine forecast I suspect he'll be much closer. Ptit Tzig has impressed so far this season but he tackles this trip for the first time.
The other is old boy Champion Court in the handicap chase. Still retains ability and I reckon the handicapper has now given him a chance. Conor Shoemark taking 3lb off is another positive. 14/1 will do for me.
    Good luck all

Rebook, todays the day we cash in on our Meadowcroft Hype :1980_boogie_down: although with him being 16/1 doesnt seem too fancied! Needs to settle better but glad they are back to 2miles today.

Fancy Champagne West, Splash of Ginge( who would have went on to win/go close LTO) and also Rock on Ruby.

odds on fav whisper may well be worth opposing not just on times/distance but also on the strength of the 271 day lay of . Track specialist Mrs S Gardner looks to have done some homework here as HERES HERBIE 2wins from 4 runs here should not be 20s I will take it on ew but have a sneaky feeling they will want to bring home the new year bacon
