Surely if we consider ourselves to be promotion contenders, which we are, then we have to look beyond the moment and bring in players that can be a part of any campaign at a higher level. A fine balancing act is needed and SC will get the job done without selling the shop.
Cotterill states that his only real target (Doyle??) is off to the Championship. So despite our position I don't expect any Marquee signings. Quite simply financial common sense prevails now and we only pay League 1 wages. The culture is probably to secure promotion and then wheel and deal
If that's true then it's disappointing, but hopefully there are other achievable targets that we're monitoring
I agree with Cotterill, whilst we all expect to be promoted this year it's not a gurantee so as to not hinder our finances we need to be shrewd in the loan market. Then once guaranteed we can then get some in during summer window. Last thing we need is players on big salaries and we **** up this season or even worse team unity in the dressing room. At the moment we've got a good bunch of players that are united to each other. Also I said before Doyle has had an brilliant season so far, but so did Matt Smith and our fans was on his back when he wasn't performing, like they were with Chris Woods. Hopefully a fully fit Smith will become a great hopeful for us.
Keeping hold of players is more important. If we've any ambition of reaching and staying in the Championship for a good amount of time, we have to keep hold of our prize assets. I've no doubt struggling Championship teams are sniffing round the Gate.
Wikipedia states end of the season which makes it unlikely we'd be able to get him - at this point anyway. Summer target perhaps.
Latest from that site.. 31 Dec 2014 16:13:52 Benik Afobe keen to join Bristol City from Arsenal on 3. 5 year deal however there are complications regarding his season long loan to MK Dons.
This lad may be worth a punt - out of contract at Arsenal at the end of the season http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chuba_Akpom
Doyle to Reading is doing the rounds, probably the championship side that SC is on about. However if SC or SL want him they can compete, remember Agard and Leeds.
I don't think Joe Bryan is premiership quality yet. He's been consistent so far and is one for he future. However he needs a good season in the championship next year before he could cut it in the prem. Perhaps loaning him out to us for a year and a half if we go up.
02 Jan 2015 12:41:56 AFC Bournemouth are interested in signing Luke Freeman of Bristol City during the January transfer window.
Walsall boss Dean Smith has today stated that Walsall dont need to sell and none of his stars are for sale. Leading scorer Tom Bradshaw has been subject to interest from Bristol City and Sheffield United recently following fourteen goals in twenty games.
only a matter of time, but what do you do, other than say he"s 4 mill+ and if you don"t like it, jog on.
Could Bournemouth afford him. All money if he goes must be spent on replacing him with an equal replacement other wise we will not go up.
Can understand interest from Championship clubs, should Bournemouth go up, and good luck to them, when considering that not that long ago, they started a season on Minus 17 points-they will get murdered in the Prem unless they buy big-Freeman could be a good future buy but they would need to spend an awful lot more. I am sure we did not employ him just to sell him on 6 months later, but then every player has his price
