After all the negativity on here over the last month. Thought I'd look for the positives. We're half way through the season and we arent in the bottom 3. Result. While i thought we'd be a lot higher, we arent, but we arent in the bottom 3!! As Brucey said he could have named the bottom 8 but not the order. We have the best GD of that bottom 8, always a good sign. Some of those teams look poor, really poor; while we have played poorly on occasions but can and will get better. I think we'll get stronger as the season goes on. We've had **** luck with injuries and suspensions and it has to be said loss of form of key players but we arent in the bottom 3. Chins up lads. Happy New Year. In Bruce We Trust.
Yep you're right, just try to think of the positives dude. You need to get an avatar sorted Reinhold. ASAP.
As bad as we've been at times, we'd finish the season on 32 points. Add in a couple of flukey wins and we are basically safe?
I'd agree its reasonable to be cautiously optimistic about the second half of the season. We've generally had bad luck with ref decisions (except at Sunderland) and with injuries. Snodgrass would have made a big difference as a MF'er willing to attack, put in great crosses, and lethal on free kicks. But Diame was a huge addition and hopefully he'll miss the AFCON and be back with us soon, and Ince looks ready to contribute. Hernandez has yet to prove himself as a goal scoring partner for Jelly but could come good. My faith in Bruce's tactical ability and team selection has been somewhat shaken recently but he may still be the best man for the job and with a bit of luck could have had us in mid-table right now. Overall I'm still positive and looking for a much better second half. Happy New Year to all and of course our players!!
I will echo your sentiments exactly Roger. Six of our top players were absent in our last game and (as Sterling Archer said) we simply do not have the depth to replace them. I too was impressed by Ince who took the ball forward at every opportunity and who looks a very good investment. I expect that we will off-load some players in January but will it be enough to put enough money in the 'War Chest' for further investment? Happy New Year to you and yours and I would imagine that being 100 degree's plus on Saturday here it will be a little warmer than where you are.
Yes all ready feeling better after reading some of these positive views, let me add that we have been the better team in our last two games which is a good sign and hopefully we will get some of our missing players back in the near future. Lets hope we are all even more positive after Thursday
Hi Laurie....Happy New Year to you and the Child Bride also. Like you I think we're close to being competitive in the top flight ...with a top Striker being the big priority. I've escaped from the frozen North to my kids in LA for the holiday season but its quite chilly here...60/70 degrees. Not the usual SoCal weather. Sounds like you are getting the hot weather...we will probably move back down here this summer for our "twilight years" and to be near the family. Lets hope for a nice win over Everton to start the New Year!!
Good to see a bit more optimism on here again - it's going to be tense but, as has previously been mentioned, to survive a bear attack you don't need to run faster than the bear, only faster than the people you're with. I still fancy City to outrun at least three teams. Let's enjoy the race. Happy New Year to all not 606 contributors/readers.
Admittedly it would be great to actually see our first team all fit an available. We have been ravaged by injuries and what's worse is time after time the injuries are to our key and best players. Diame, Dawson, Snodgrass, Jelavic, McGregor, Huddlestone, Robertson and Ramierez have all spent lengthy periods out and then we also have Ben Arfa wasting up a loan spot and arguably being our worst signing of all time. Here's hoping these injured players are back soon and playing well and maybe we can bring in a couple of new faces somehow.
we have had a real time of it since day one with KEY injuries , suspensions and bloody bad luck HBA in my opinion was never used correctly , he is a bit of a luxury player - especially to a team without the ball like we have been . Diame and Robertson Till November were standout players , and since the Arsenal game we have barely had the chance to play a game without a new suspension or injury - We clearly have a quality squad - well capable of firing us up the league to where Stoke and Everton currently are , its just nobody knows how best to do it . One thing thats happening too often is we play so defensively that our only option is to play counter attack - which we have nobody suited to that role . Jan , id like to see either a pacy forward or a HBA replacement come in and if not give Ince some more game time .
At last some positivity. My last post before Christmas said cheer up we'll finish two places above the relegation three and I still believe that. Could get better if the returning players re discover their form.
Good post! We've had probably 3 BAD performances. Villa away when they were flying at the top, Burnley away (hey, when do we ever beat them regardless of league position? They're taking points off everybody at the minute) and Man Utd away (but we didn't look any worse than Liverpool did at Old Trafford a couple of weeks later). We've had a fair amount of questionable officiating performances too (Spurs home, Chelsea away, Leicester home (that was a hand ball on the line)). We've got a lot of hard fixtures already out the way (Old Trafford, Anfield, Emirates, Stamford Bridge) and we WILL get better when suspensions/injuries clear up. You only have to be better than three other teams this season and I'd say we're better than at least 5. If we finish 17th, big deal... you can question the money spent but you'll gain a lot more staying in the league. Calls of top 10 were probably too ambitious at the start of the season, who knows, maybe one day?
So all the turds who keep banging on about how few wins in 2014 we had, not good enough etc etc can say **** all as we're into 2015 now!!
New year, new start, got a really good feeling about today despite the absentees, and with Brucie coming out straight away and distancing himself from the Newcastle job then it`s gotta bring a bit of harmony to the team and hopefully steady the ship, c`mon citeeeeeeeeeee
Is today's game the first in the Championship? The the way someone people are going on about this stat you'd think we had been relagated.
