Some good points... When I played football it was mostly on full sizish pitches with full size goals, not good when you are 4' 6" playing in a goal that is 8' high, no wonder a lot of matches ended up with double digit scores. No doubt that has changed as there is no way kids should be playing on full size pitches until they are 14 - 15 years, smaller pitches encourage greater ball skills and positioning which can then be transferred onto the larger area. Plus as bob says above parents have to stop screaming at the child if he/she attempts something that doesn't work, winning isn't everything at that age...
Spot on Bob...As i knew you would be....So what do we do about it. Controlling parents on the side line is the difficult one i think.
Mentality of coaches. They'd rather pick out someone who was big, fast and strong instead of somebody that possesses good technical ability. Somebody like Xavi, one of the best midfielders of this generation, was hardly blessed with pace or strength. I'm not sure whether he'd have made it through our current academy system.
