Surprised to see that Walsh is on Zaidpour tomorrow and not Briar Hill. Even more surprised that Townend has opted for Glen's Melody and Briar Hill is partnered by Casey. I though Walsh had the first pick and Townend second. Has Briar ?Hill over indulged on Turkey? Briar Hill still favourite though. Odd
Not sure what to make of it Chan, it has confused me a bit too, are they giving Casey his 'big' Xmas winner or are they playing it straight from the hip and going with who they feel is in better shape for tomorrow?! Answers on a postcard!

It says everything you need to know. If it looks like a duck, sounds like a duck, it's probably a duck. Briar Hill will absolutely hate the conditions and has been off for ages. This is made for At Fishers Cross if he fancies turning up this weeekend. However, don't worry about that- stick your antepost Euros on MONKSLAND for the World Hurdle. We want to see him travel well and come home sound without too hard a race. This is very much a stepping stone.
1.20 Leopardstown UN ATOUT 2/1 really ought to relish conditions. 2.55 Leopardstown CARLINGFORD LOUGH 10/1 The Gold Cup hasn't had a novice shout loudly yet but this looks a right stamina test at Leopardstown tomorrow so I quite fancy AP's fella to relish this. He got slightly outpaced in the RSA, which is a hint at stamina in itself. Bobs Worth at full tilt will be a tough nut to crack but there are doubts around the Henderson big guns at the minute and he missed an intended prep run. Quite fancy JP McManus has a Gold Cup contender here.
... Toppy Do ya think Cooper got it wrong in the back straight on Sub Lt. today TC? He had a look early in the back straight and I think he felt once Ruby was out it was all his, I felt he might have pressured Sizing John rather than sit off him because he got caught for toe round the bend before staying on then.
I do mate, as I said in the thread I expected Sub Lieutenant to be drawing the stamina out of them. Leopardstown has had some real shocks so far. Love the edit mate, platypus
Talking of staying chasers, that Simon Holt article on Kauto Star (a fantastic read BTW- thanks for posting) prompted me to watch some old stuff on youtube. That segment from 2.36 onwards almost brings tears to my eyes, what a horse and comeback that was. An amazing 20/1 double for Master Minded and Kauto Star that day. and Kauto Star, is still the King!!!!
I put up Road to Riches at Down Royal when he turned it into a procession and I think at 13/2 he's a hell of a bet. Can see the Gold Cup market having a new second favorite should he do what I think he can. So many questions over the challengers I think the new kid on the block will take this and take it well. The 3m hurdle race looks a messy affair and not one I'd be backing anything in. Briar Hill has meant to be working very poorly chaps, hence why Rupert has deserted him.
Here's a rare one- Simon Holt on his final King George: Listen to that crowd, my goodness what a race. Truly spoilt with him and Denman.
Yeah I thought so too, he found it hard to change tactics mid race I think without NC he got flustered as once he was ahead of him he felt he was riding the right race unitl he exited and ended up getting too confident perhaps when he should have went charging on for SJ, oh well it's academic now, Cooper rates him very highly and we will see him in better light another day.
Good man Oddy. What are your two penneth on the Lexus, and moreover, the Gold Cup? Open year isn't it?
Lord Windemere for me mate, a true stayer with a touch of class, still under the radar screen due to his "unfashionable" trainer. With each year that passes I learn even more what a Gold Cup winner needs - stamina. When Kauto Star won it (and years before, Dessie, although I lost interest between those two) I used to think speed was the key asset, but it really is stamina. Look at Synchronised for example. I can't see anyone out-staying Lord Windemere at the moment, although I probably won't be betting in the Lexus. Certainly wouldn't touch Bobs Worth, find it hard to trust a Henderson horse at the moment.
I love Lord Windermere as you know, from that 84/1 antepost back in the RSA of 2013. One thing I would say though mate is that he isn't at his best in this heavy ground. I think he'll be beaten tomorrow but he has a fantastic shout of being in the frame for a Gold Cup repeat in March on good, spring ground. He is being brought along gradually by his very, very shrewd trainer.
Only thing I'd say about Briar Hill is that he's a notoriously **** work horse. It's been said on numerous occasions that his work away from the track is in a different league to what he does on the racecourse. Reports that he's been crap at home would normally set alarm bells ringing massively, and that still might be the case, but Briar Hill may be an exception to the rule. That said, not worth backing at his current odds
