Very impressed with this lad, and have to admit he has surprised me with how good he is, especially as we paid so little for him. Still early days I know, but thinking of the keepers we've had over the years, I rate him more highly than Siddall, Turner, Craig and Tony Gordon, Hesford, Perez, Mignolet etc. Showing my age I know, but I think he's the best keeper we've had since the fantastic Monty.
Was just saying on another site, I rate him very highly but his kicking/distribution is awful. If they could coach that out of him he could be up there with the best. Not a criticism, just an observation. That said, I hope they tie the lad down on a long term contract & I'm more than happy enough for him to continue between the sticks. Fell a bit sorry for Don Vito Corleone though.
Fully agree that his distribution needs to vastly improve, and that was never Monty's strongest point either. However his command of the area at corners is great to see and something we've lacked for a long time. Just like buses, we've had two good keepers come along together. Hope Vito sticks around to fight for his place.
His distribution is better than Mignolet and Gordons mind, but then so is a dead ****ing Llama's. He's a cracking keeper, between the 2 of them we have the complete goalkeeper. If Vito had his command and handling, or Cos had Vito's almost outfield standard passing/distribution, we'd have an absolute worldy.
I didn't for a second agree he's the best since Monty mate, time will tell. I'm of an age when I remember Tony Norman as some god like cat, the reality is probably very different...
He could just be the best goalie we've had since Monty, but it's too soon to tell. He's one big mother****** though. He dominates his goalbox and for me, that's far more important. Gives the back line so much more confidence to know they've got a dominant goalie behind them. Distribution, schmistribution.
Regarding his distribution weakness, not many of our lads run into space for him to throw out safely.
Tony Gordon - Who's he? He's a good keeper - definitely the tallest one we've ever had. Only another 611 appearances to catch up with Monty then...
Interesting to see people knock his distribution. Wickham appears to be the target and he gets the ball in a place where Wickham "can" win it most of the time. If Wickham doesn't win it then surely that's not Pantilliomon's fault? I reckon he's following instruction from above personally. So far, he's a cracking keeper and, for me, one if the signings of the season
If he is still with us 15 years down the line then he might be challenging Monty for legend status..At the moment he is doing a grand job for us and long may it continue..
Don't think we'll ever see any player stay around a club for long these days. Agents make sure of that .
