I agree the station should have a regional name, the only difference being that just because it is called Radio Newcastle does not make me feel as if I should not make use of it. Your viewpoint is the opposite and I respect that.
To be fair I don't their problem is just with the name. Their bias considering it a regional station is shocking. Think the point is Radio Newcastle by name Radio Newcastle By nature which isn't what the people outside the area Newcastle pay their licence fee for. I think They've every right to complain. Darlington picks up Radio Newcastle and Cleveland. Neither rarely ever mention Darlo, at least the didn't.
What would the name be if it wasnt BBC Newcastle? It seems that the regional stations are named either after a city or the county (with one or two exceptions). As BBC Newcastle covers more than 1 county then i can understand why it is called what it is! I suppose it could be called BBC North East but that would go against the norm.....North East is not a city or county! Newcastle is chosen as, lets be honest, its the first city people outside of the north east will think if prompted to name one. If there was a 'capital' of the north east it would be Newcastle! As long as its content is not biased towards Newcastle then it doesnt bother me in the slightest (i dont listen to it so i cant make a judgement on that) although I live closer to Newcastle than any other major town or city so that probably influences the fact i couldnt give a s**t! EDIT - just read from above that there seems to be bias towards Newcastle. That I would have a problem with, alot more than what the station is actually called!
safc.com does commentary but the use Barnes and Benno too. They should bring someone else in. Com and Billy perhaps
