Rivalry aside, football's the common denominator on this site, a high percentage of people had never met each other before they started chatting on Not606 and previous football forums.

Football has bonded thousands of people, in all sorts of ways, we look at football's 'value for money' element as what our players do on the pitch to 'earn their wages'. That's all well and good but for me I've always maintained my love for the game is and always will be stronger than my affiliation to my club and more so it's playing staff.

There's a lot more to football for me than the effort my team puts in on the pitch, which brings me to Clarke Carlisle.

The guy is on his death bed after what appears to be a suicide attempt. The footballing world needs to come together and make this guy feel like he has a place, if the doctors (and prayers if you're that way inclined) can save his life, then he needs to realise that he has a place in this world.

From Eric Cantona to Kenny Dalglish (that's my love-hate spectrum extremes) each person has played a part in making me fall in love with the game, Clarke Carlisle is somewhere in there, subconsciously maybe but he's contributed to the greatest sport in the world, that has bonded almost each and every one of you and millions of people for generations around the world.

Hope that the medical staff can save his life, this really is a shameful crime that mental health issues are so massively ignored in today's day and age.

How many footballing heroes are going to slip away unnoticed before the world's biggest bandwagon decides to do something about it?

I didn't realise it was a suicide attempt...As you say, he must have been in a really dark place to do this and it is up to those who know him to make him feel that he has something worthwhile to contribute..

It's only 'rumours' for now Reg, but he's confessed to several failed attempts to take his own life previously in his book.

The media are inferring it was a RTA using the word 'collision' so maybe I'm getting wrong information, or maybe they're just choosing their words carefully.

Either way, let's hope the guy makes a full recovery, he's a great ambassador for the sport.
