How the frig can Bridlington, Leeds, Scarborough, Selby, Wakefield and York afford it if HCC can't? It's just mind boggling the level of ineptness and lack of any vision. How the **** do these ****ers keep getting voted in?
I know its the Tour De France but this is a great article about when it came to Yorkshire. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/ot...e-Yorkshire-turns-glory-cheer-tbike-race.html Then there was the small matter of brass, which does not go overlooked here. The figure of £100 million benefit to the local economy may have been plucked from the air by an ambitious publicist, but it is thought to be close to the truth. Certainly, the investment has proved hugely successful. All the conventions were observed. At daybreak in Leeds, later in Harrogate, and in possibly in every town and village en route, a breakfast television hack could be found pleading with crowds for a spot of raucous enthusiasm: âAre we excited about the Tour de France coming to Yorkshire?â âYeahhhhhh!â It is the squirming tradition they observe for royal weddings and Itâs A Knockout. But the response was everything the sport could have wished. Quite aside from the tumult of town and city, the way in which the crowds closed in on the climbers â urging, cajoling, doing everything short of hauling them to the peak â was every bit as fervent as their cousins in the Pyrenees. These were not curious observers, these were people who understood what they saw. Just yesterday, Sir Dave Brailsford, the Godfather of the sport in this country, announced his belief that Britain is the worldâs premier cycling nation. Certainly, the public appears to âget itâ, an underestimated affection which has its roots in the achievements of such as Chris Froome and Sir Bradley Wiggins, and which will increase when the next generation of cyclists states its case. But you can discern authentic knowledge, as contenders such as Alberto Contador of Spain, Vincenzo Nibali of Italy and the American Andrew Talansky are earnestly discussed. My god their ineptness knows no limits does it. How can they turn this down.
Anyway who wants to be associated with the ****ing French, Tour De Yorkshire, **** off, what wrong with an English race, something like the Yorkshire World Cup Cycling, think big, not a two week amble round frog land
I think its fair enough personally if there is a significant net cost to hosting it, all benefits considered. Hull City Council are probably about to embark on their seemingly annual job cut process as the money from central government continues to be cut at a higher rate than most other councils. Pissing money away on cycling while they are cutting social care staff and other emotive essential services could be seen as being misguided. Who knows where the truth lies though financially on this event. I agree with the above. Hull City Council is on its last legs. Its only a matter of years before everything is contracted out to external service companies. These new companies won't be "mismanaged" as they'll look after themselves first, not the Hull resident.
What a load of ****ing bollox that statement is. You need to stop listening to the Dave and George show.
Are you Steverico? Of course it's not ****ing bollocks. It's reality which some of you hard of hearing don't seem able/capable of digesting.
Cycling events never pay for themselves instantly as its usually free to watch sport so there is no way of charging people to see it go past, but in the long term it should attract people to Hull and benefit the local economy for the future and on the day because of the large footfall of people.
Those pesky cuts! http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/Hull...000-aircraft/story-23333483-detail/story.html
Councillor Steven Bayes, portfolio holder for visitor destination, said: "I understand the points being made about spending this kind of money before a final decision on the bid, but the City Plan is all about attempting to reinvigorate the economy by trying to get more people into the city, trying to get more people spending money and trying to create jobs. **** me. Visitor destination!!! Still he'd probably just left work and was a bit too tired to be arsed about a massive event coming to the City.
But if it's going all round Yorkshire won't the towns and cities that get the tour just cancel each other out?
Well said . Anyway it's hardly the Tour de France or the Giro is it. There's already a lot of cutbacks being enforced on some of our services due to central government.
Anyone who thinks the Labour Run city council are doing a good job needs their heads read. Lets look back 6 months ago! Bid for Aircraft Carrier Cruise Terminal Tour De Yorkshire Today. No aircraft carrier attraction Cruise terminal project stalled (will probably build but have no contract with cruise liners). On your bike Tour De Yorkshire They are inept and couldn't run a bath. I don't live in Hull at the moment and probabaly never will again but I love my home city and cannot believe the council so run so badly they cannot compete with Selby Council and Wakefield Met. Look at the businesses in the city, we will probably see Smith & Nephew, Siemens, Reckitts etc all sponsoring this amazing opportunity, just a shame they can't do the event on their own doorstep. People wonder why Allam spat his dummy out... I would lose the will to live having to deal with those in the Guildhall too... Geraghty should be paxman'd as to why he passed up on this! I'm sure its a political decision or the bid had to be in at 9am one morning and due to 'flexitime' poor old Terry didn't start work until 10 so he made up this cock and bull!
Maybe if they sold a loss making sporting venue in the city, they could be a bit more pro - active in encouraging events with a greater return on investment. Do they own any loss making venues in the city I wonder? Sounds like politics to me!
These hull based 'external' companies which HCC create have tended to be quangos with the same mismanagement clowns from Guildhall running them, eg KWL, Hull Telephones and Hull City Leisure for instance. The Hull Trinity have their noses in every trough, and unless there is a radical change in the real management of Hull, my home city, of which I was once a proud resident will continue to decline. Go West Young man. It's your only chance of prosperity!
