So Mignolet has been poor and now dropped. Jones has been poor but no one expected much else.

It looks like our top priority this January is a goal keeper. But this has me worried. For starters, January is a tricky market to sign a decent keeper as no one wants to loose a good goalie mid season, meaning we are either likely to get a decent teams sub keeper or another teams Mignolet, and also because some of the keepers we are being linked with are not really an improvement on what we have already.

Sure we have been linked to Cech, who I'd love us to sign. But I just cant see that happening. Casillas has been linked and could be a good signing, but his form has dropped over recent seasons. His experience and leadership would benefit us, but that's no benefit if his own form is poor. As he is starting to loose his automatic place in Real Madrid's goal and as he is getting towards the winter of his career this signing could be more realistic than Cech. But it still feels unlikely and could be a short lived solution.

But other than those two its Valdes, Ochoa and Ruddy. A free agent, an average clubs substitute and a Championship clubs keeper.

We have also been linked strongly to Fiorentina's Neto, who I admit I know nothing about. He may be world class for all I know. But if he is world class he would surely be getting us all a bit more excited.

Folks on here have thrown about names like Trapp, but I cant see those types of keepers moving clubs in January. Stegen spends all of his time on Barca's bench and could be tempted by a promise of first team football. But again, unlikely until the summer.

Another trend in the links is that all of the keepers are cheap. Suggesting we are not very prepared to invest in the best.

So, I guess the discussion here is can we realistically expect better than Mignolet to sign this January? and is that keeper going to be significantly better enough for it to be worth it? Should we just hold off until the summer when the market is much better and clubs are much more willing to negotiate on keepers? Is any one else scared we will just sign the goal keeping equivalent of Balotelli (AKA who ever the f** is available)?

  2. I think we'll look to bring in a keeper but it will be very difficult to improve on Migs at this time of year. I've selected 'No' <ok>

I agree...but have selected No because I suspect we'll just go out and sign someone even worse <laugh>

No - can't see anyone decent joining us in our current position. Those available who'd come are generally pretty **** or old and on the decline.

Or to young for this level, like Mignolet was when he signed.

Valdes or Cech would be great out of the ones mentioned, I would add that we actually need 2 keepers and I'd look at Boruc as a number 2 keeper.

Not keep Mignolet and sign a new number 1?

No team wants to lose a good keeper at any time but these days January window is almost a pariah if a window

No one from players to managers either wants to move or be moved

If I were stoke say I might think F off no matter what or I might think hey I've jack but land to come in

Cech I expect to stay and play for league cup medal and to go for Chelsea's euro ride and claim a last prem medal

So..... Can we get better than mingolet... Yes... Will we? Not by the look of a few that are being touted

Depends how much money we have to spend. Begovic would be my choice, but he will cost a few quid.

Good shout but they'll never sell him in January, never. Come summer maybe something might happen

Begovic has been just as poor as Mig this year. Stoke have been awful from set pieces and Begovic has hardly been a dominating force at the back.

  15. I had thought that too but since I've not watched as much footy as normal this year I didn't want to say.

I wanted Begs rather than Migs though so...

Mattia Perrin appears to be our number 1 target, according to Di Marzio.

God I hope he's better than the clips I've seen of him.

He makes Mig look like he has safe hands! The guy is more of a flapper than D.James!
