Crewe boss Steve Davis accuses Bristol City of trying to influence referee. please log in to view this image Bristol City manager Steve Cotterill and Crewe boss Steve Davis share a word before kick-off at at Gresty Road. Crewe boss Steve Davis accused Bristol City players of trying to get on-loan striker Uche Ikpeazu sent off during Saturday's League One clash at Gresty Road. Referee Andy Haines reduced City to 10 men when issuing Derrick Williams with his marching orders for a second cautionable offence early in the second half. And Watford striker Ikpeazu, already booked for a foul in the first half, was fortunate not to follow the Irishman down the tunnel when escaping a second yellow card for deliberate hand ball. Spotting the danger from the touchline, Davis substituted Ikpeazu with 14 minutes remaining rather than risk his side going down to 10 men. Speaking in the immediate aftermath of Crewe’s first win in nine games dating back to October 21, he said: “I felt Bristol City were trying to even the game up from the moment they went down to 10 men. “Uche was already on a yellow card and was walking a bit of a tightrope to be honest. City’s players were deliberately winding him up and doing what they could to try and get him sent off. “You could see what was going to happen, so I decided to take him off. We were leading 1-0 and there was no point taking the risk. "Bristol City players kept surrounding the referee and getting involved with him. You could see they were trying to influence him and put him under pressure to make decisions. My players are encouraged not to do that and they did well to stay out of it;." http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/Crewe-...tory-25746980-detail/story.html#ixzz3MX5S6qps
He deserved to be sent off but I didn't like the reaction of our players in trying to get him sent off. Swindon and Wade springs to mind. We're better than that
Its simply the complete lack of refereeing consistency that is causing all these upsets! Deliberate handball is a bookable offence, so ****ing book him..
As far as I know deliberate handball is a bookable offence, so you have to ask why the ref refused to apply the laws. He should be demoted to officiate a Rovers game!
Quite agree, don't want SC to start sounding like Holloway who always blames everything possible but himself and his team !!
