Don't post very often but after reading for a while it seems some of our fans are not particularly happy with our manager so i would like to give my honest opionion. For me Steve Bruce has been a fantastic appointment. The thing that pleases me most is the squads average age. When Bruce arrived it was 27.8 now under 23, which in turn means we are a lot more likely to make a profit on those we sell on compared to the losses made on the majority of Keanes signing. In fact over the past 15 years very few players have come to Sunderland and found there price tag rise. We made big losses on flops such as Flo and Leslandes. Underneath is a summery of all the in's and Outs since Bruce arrived (some of the transfer fees may not be perfect, however i have cross checked them on several websites) The transfers are just money spent/received and does not include Loans in or out. Bruce to date has not spent a penny on the Sunderland squad (largely thanks to sums received on Bent and Henderson)infect he has make the club a profit of around 7.5m. I think that is extraordinary as fans from other clubs seem to think we have spent millions upon millions and are vastly underachieving. When in reality Bruce has and is still putting a good, hungry young squad together and if any of the players shine in the EPL and attract attention of bigger clubs then Sunderland can now expect to reap the financial rewards. All in all well done Mr Bruce and your backroom team and keep up the good work. In's 2009/2010 Lee Cattermole = 6m Darren Bent = 10m Fraser Campbell =3.5m Michael Turner 4.5m Lorik Cana = 5m Total =29m Out 2009/2010 Michael Chopra = 4m Greg halford = 2m Dean whitehead = 3m Danny collins = 2m Anthony Stokes = 1.5m Carlos Edwards = 1.25m Grant leadbitter = 2.5m Paul Mcshane = 1.5m Total = 19.75m In's 2010/2011 Asamoah Gyan = 13m Steffen Sessingnon = 6m Simon Mignolet = 2m Titus Bramble = 1m Christan Rivaros = 3m Marcos Angeleri = 1.5m Total = 26.5m Out 2010/2011 Martin Waghorn = 3m Darren Bent = 24m Daryal Murphy = 1.5m Kenwayne Jones = 8m Martin Fulop = 2m Lorik Cana = 5m Roy o Donavon = 500,000 Total = 44m in's 2011/2012 Conner Wickham = 13m Craig Gardiner = 5m Dong = 1m Al Muhammadi = 1.5m Total = 20.5 Outs 2011/2012 Jordan Henderson = 20m Total = 20m Anth
This wont convince the Bruce doubters mate but I would question where you say it seems our fans are not happy with Bruce, well I would say 75% are but you wont convert the other 25% until we have a terrific season next year. Although its good business, not everyone cares about the financial aspect of the footbal club just the performances on the pitch.
I'm a Bruce supporter, but feel this season is make or break for him. Profits mean nowt to us folks, it's results and performances. He's been busy trying to get players to improve on last season, so good luck to him.
I have been saying the same thing for months on here, nobody takes a blind bit of notice though lol and profits may not mean anything, net spend doesnt, but his actual spend does "He spent 70 million on players and the team are still ****" is the biggest gripe i have heard, no mention of the money he got back for players that Keane bought, its always what he has spent.
First of all a very good first post mate, some will agree with you others wont but that does not detract from it bing a good post. We have, like all clubs, a percentage of supporters who are not Bruce fans, thats life but IMO does not stop them from supporting the club and team. A few more changed sides following the slump, second in two years and I understand that. I am with commo, I support Bruce and like him but this really is a big year for him, no excuses.
Totally agree with this, with the transfers in and players we're linked with so far this window, he's definitely heading in the right direction imo
I still have reservations. Thats just the way it is. He's our manager and I support him but I will also criticise him when he gets it wrong although but I won't slag him off or anyhing like that. I simply don't have the same level of faith in him as some others.
Im a Bruce man as i have said in many posts a manager needs 3-5 years to build a team before you can judge him. I am however surprised that we are virtually having to rebuild a team this coming season. I have feeling this is make or break year for him and must finish Top 10 quite comfortably or the Bruce out brigade will be shouting. Then we go through the scenario of new manager, rebuild, spend money, more years of waiting for the team to gel (i am getting to old for all this) The most successfull managers are there long term so why not ride it out and give Bruce 5 years and a trophy or final in that time and a team that comfortably can stay in the premiership like Everton then that is an improvement to the days of a relegation battle every year.
Let's be honest - done a decent job (in broad terms) - agree this season is make or break for him (personally see that of this window). Acid test is the second game of the season - if we are as poor as we were last time around (in both games) then the vultures will circle
Yep , if we don't fair well in the derby, he'll have his work cut out to appease some of the crowd. Everyone confident on the derby? I am, reckon we are pulling away from them at the moment, unless they start to gain some players.
All points taken, question I have is,,,, why does he need a virtualy new team every season, he did this at Brummie also, and look what happened to them, and what are we building on, we sell our future, that we have nurtured ,to buy ManU, players past their sell by dates, on four year contracts, but the wages dont stop.
I think rhat I have made it pretty clear that I back Steve Bruce, but I'm also well aware that if the team doesn't turn up in the 'very early' derby game, his detractors will be in full voice... For the sake of the club, I hope that doesn't happen.
because thats what teams who want to move up the league do, and i wouldnt exactly say they are passed their sell buy dates 31,30 and 23 isnt that old these days, you are buying experience and know how as well as ability.
