I've never heard of these things before, apparently they were a series of mini-documentaries that were shown in cinemas during the 60's...
Good stuff, OLM! I thought of the 59 Club before I watched it https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=5...niv&sa=X&ei=Bg2UVMvQM9frar3LgfgB&ved=0CEMQsAQ
Good find that Lammie, you can't beat the occasional bit of nostalgia. Enjoyed the ton up boys clip, I still ride a motorbike and shudder when I recall the three years I rode mostly without a helmet, ****in' madness !
Me and my mates used to bomb up to Brid every Sunday on our bikes and no bother like Brighton, in fact one of my mates was on a Lamby he was a mate not a mod no problem. Hessle was buzzing with motorbikes in those day and no drink drive laws no helmet laws so some crazy guys and crazy times, the girls were awesome but unfortunately you had to have a hell of a bike and I didn't but still great times. Jap bikes started taking over the higher end of the bike market they already had the lower end and then Honda brought out a 750 4 cylinder bike and BSA, Triumph, Norton and other British bike makers wondered what the hell had hit them, the rest as they say is history.
Cheers Stanley and I agree with every word you said, but no way could I afford one, I got married lol.
Beautiful Stan; 400/4 F1, had the one same colour - I paid £375 for a four year old one, God only knows what it would go for now. They've copied the beautiful 4 into 1 pipes onto the new CBR650F, shame they partially hid them behind a fairing.
We must be a similar age ref, you're right about the trouble, I never saw any on weekend rides up the coast - if you saw someone on two wheels broken down you stopped and give 'em a hand whether the two wheels was a scooter or a bike. Just after passing my test I part ex'd my first proper bike, a 350 single, for a Yamaha YR5 350 twin, my mates, who mostly stayed loyal to the Brit bikes, took the piss out of my ''Jap crap'', not for long though - first blast we went on I lost them within 5 miles of setting off, some would beat it top end, but for sheer acceleration ? Not a chance ! It was no wonder the British bike industry died, they'd become complacent and when they realised Japanese bikes were no joke it was all too late.
A beauty Stan ...... the stuff we had back in the day and didn't realise what we'd got (unless you still have it of course) ?
I well remember a lad at tech college circa 1963 He had a Yam YDS2 Sports and bombed it arouind queens gardens Christ it was fast compared to the bonneville my mate had The brit bikers thought they wouldnt last "cos they revved to high" If your interested i seem to remember some footage on well known site, of jap factories building early rice burners
Nah. I had a smash and had to trade it in for a Panther 325 cc Villiers twin. 2-stroke. Not the same, really.
I guess you guys are a bit older than me, i started riding in 1978 and remember the mod revival in the early 80's, a few fisty cuffs in Hull, Brid, Scarbourgh, and the Flask cafe. Still on two wheels today by the way.
Me too, got back riding again when I took early retirement 18 months ago - this is my pressie to myself (I've never ridden a more comfy sport tourer). View attachment 34434
