HIAG - you have a wonderful sense of humour! I am sure most Saints fans on here expect to finish a tad higher - somewhere between 6th and 13th!!!!

The real problem is that some of you (well, almost all of you, in fact) began to believe the hype and really did believe that a miracle might actually happen. All you are feeling is the pain of being put back in your boxes. I really would not worry about it.

They disappeared long before Saints left the Dell. The Milton End and those boxes!!! Fond memories!!!!

even with Schneiderlin's future in the air I think I felt more positive than snap your arm off for 14th by the start of the season tbh.

I took HIAG's post as tongue in cheek. I still think we'll finish top half however what happens in the next month will decide if we can hang onto any hopes of top 6.

Well that was a not so pleasant trip to Yorkshire!

Those that read regularly will know that I am one of the biggest defenders of the club/management/players on this forum, offering bickering. A point of defense on their behalf like a dog with a bone, as someone pointed out recently. I'm glad I'm seen like that because I truly am passionate about my club. Tonight though I feel like I have let down. My 13 year old and I went tonight in the hope of witnessing one of those special nights. What I unfortunately saw was a league one team outplay a top 5 Premier League team and show more desire to win the game. They passed the ball and looked crisp compared to us, who seemed to play a long central ball far too often.

I understand we have a small squad and that some of these guys probably do need a rest, and I have not been worried by the last four league games, but tonight was a big game. I have said for weeks that this was the big one. A kind Cup draw to the lowest team left in the competition to reach the semis had me dreaming of Wembley, it really did. I did feel let down tonight, I really did. The best part was being stood next to a nice bloke, who it turns out lives a couple of villages away from me. Funny old world.

I didn't know what to say to a small boy, slumped in the car seat next to me on that awful drive home. I just said sorry. I'm not one for slagging the players or club, but tomorrow I think I'll be working very hard at work and not thinking about them too much for a day or two. They took a little piece if me away tonight.

    .
    .

On another note, someone mentioned it kicking off big time in Sheffield tonight. Anyone know more? Fortunately we were near the steps out and as soon as the whistle went, we were gone and parked the right side to tet away quickly. Hope there wasn't big trouble and all are ok.

Good post FLT. You've captured my mood. It is only football, and I have learned to be phlegmatic about Saints but tonight I too felt "let down". Good luck to Sheffid Utd. They played as a 3rd Div team needs to do when playing a technically better team. We let them. It was clueless.

Never said we haven't spent enough did I ? The Cortese way of only bringing in better players left our squad being small. What with our rapid rise up the leagues we needed to really buy a squad instead of just a team. If Cortese wanted his way to work then yes we would need to spend far more then we did. Only buying one or two great players yet keeping players not up to it didn't make sense, all it did was make us have a strong team but nothing for back up . Add players leaving and us getting rid of the players not up to it and this is what is happening now.

It is football FFS and you rarely if ever get what you want.

Life is too short to be in such a state of despair over a game. You should all be aware of that after yesterdays sad events.

Your personal fulfilment must come from many sources and not just from a game of football.

To be so intense about a single aspect of one's life is quite worrying.

TBH honest Godders I think many sensibly use football as their choice to vent most of their anger. something that doesn't matter so you don't hurt anyone.

Better the rants are aimed at football than serious subjects, activities or circumstances that really do matter.

Have to say I am a tad concerned. I cannot ever recall saints losing 5 on the trot.......Anyone who gets into the quarter finals of any cup is going to have be on top of their game to progress further. I haven't looked at the stats yet but am guessing we either have a lot of very tired players out there, or an awful lot of players off form. Or maybe a combination of both.
There have been quite a few Saints fans that have been expressing concern over the season about our lack of cover especially in the forward line. It is time we started to buy some real quality forwards perhaps.
Mane isn't cutting it at the moment, Long is not doing it for us either although provides more than Mane. Pelle is hot and cold. To be fair though he has not had too much support and was sadly missed I gather last night.
At the moment we cant seem to buy a win despite having a fair proportion of the game.......Which is concerning as previously said.......

This. I had to vent my anger and I felt better afterwards. Sometimes you just need to get it off your chest.
