    Hi,

As an anniversary pressie I want to make a picture with photos of our dogs with a pawprint background. I then want to scan our dogs' pawprint in and put them on.

I'm confident enough that I could use publisher to make the picture but I don't know how to cut out the pawprint. Does anybody know of a free program to cut objects out of a photo/scan?

    Thanks

Microsoft Paint can do it, you should already have it on your PC.

    GIMP, which I use personally.

There's also Paint.NET, not related to Microsoft Paint.

You could just download the 30 day trial of Photoshop or Photoshop Elements (or another paid one).

I use GIMP, regularly. It's great, and free. That's the one you want.

    GIMP is great.

Just don't google for it on a works laptop if you work in a tightly controlled secure environment...

    Some of the results were....disturbing.

Yup, I use GIMP, but then it's pretty much de rigeur on Linux. I wasn't aware it had been ported to Windows, but I assume it is just as good even if it no doubt runs slower.

I use Microsoft Snipping Tool all the time.

Basic, simple, straightforward: Suits me down to the ground.

Dog's paw prints, although obviously different from dog to dog, cannot be used for identification purposes in the way that fingerprints can be in humans.

Dog's nose prints however; they are unique to each dog and can be used for identification purposes. Each nose is unique.
