Andy Lonergan is the latest to be linked with a move to leeds according to the daily mirror which basically means its set in stone. For me i wouldnt mind the move because although preston conceded alot of goals last season he is actually a pretty decent keeper, only thing is though is that if we get a keeper like lonergan we would've gone backwards from schmeichal not forwards, we should be looking at getting a class keeper in
I find it worrying that the keepers we are being linked with are average. It seems as though the club didn't actually have a deal in place, or a list of targets when they sold Schmeichel. We've been linked with Dudek for a week now...
I truly believe Grayson lost out on Weston feeling sure he had landed him and now hasn't a clue as to which keeper he can manage to get into the club for peanuts. My guess is we will start the new campaign with a keeper joining us on a season long loan.
There's been a lot of rumours on various pne forums. http://www.pne-online.net/forum/showthread.php?64642-Loners-!! http://pebbleleague.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=pnenews&thread=697&page=1#9460 The bottom link, the guy who started the thread is right 9/10 times. Just wanted to say bad luck in signing lonergan. He is awful can't move off his line, can't save shots further than 10 yards out. Keep him as last choice and you'll be fine All the best
alex, we are after a first choice keeper apparently so thats worrying. I heard Everton were also looking at him, so is he really that bad? Billy Paynter managed to get one past him also which is cause for concern!
cant view the second link as we arent members but the first link suggests the fans dont rate him and want shot of him as soon as possible!
Well to be fair most people used to rate him, but he's lost alot of confidence the last few seasons, so he's made more mistakes which meant his confidence dropped even more. A fresh start might be what he needs. Theres not much to read on the second link just says: Lonergan to Leeds, done deal
More info RT @garethjones25 We understand #lufc on verge of signing preston keeper Andy Lonergan, subject to medical and any late hitches #pnefc Gareth Jones is a journo for BBC radio Leeds.
Cheers for the info Alex, much appricated. This will not go down well as it doesnt look like 'on paper' we have strenghened at all.
Haven't even got our 2 best players to sign new contracts yet, something that could have been done last weds.
Since when has 'on paper' meant anything? 'On paper', Leeds, Norwich and Millwall were all gonna struggle last season. 'On paper', England could've very easily made at least the semi-finals of the last World Cup. 'On paper', Chelsea should've won every trophy they were up for last season. Let's see how he gets on before we judge him. The same goes for Rachubka. MOT
I bet you're hoping Rachubka's your number one now, it looks like the better keepers carried on all the way to the end of the M62.
Grayson loves signing goalkeepers, so even if Lonergan signs we could get another. He signed two loan keepers at the same time last season.
Preston goalkeeper Andy Lonergan is rumoured to be a transfer target for Leeds United. Manager Simon Grayson is on the lookout for a new keeper after Kasper Schmeichel moved to Leicester last month. Grayson has already brought Blackpool's Paul Rachubka to Elland Road, but made it clear that he was still looking for another keeper. Experienced Lonergan is increasingly emerging as the club's top target. The 27-year-old has been a one-club man up to this point in his career. He was Preston's player of the year in 2009 and 2010. He lost his place in the team as North End were relegated to League One last season. He has two years remaining on his deal at Deepdale, but Preston would be willing to sell at the right price.
He was Preston's player of the year in 2009 and 2010. I remember at the start of last season Preston fans boasting about how he was the best 'keeper in the league. Maybe he just needs a new start.
I'd imagine any keeper in the world would let in a lot of goals if their team was struggling as much as Preston did last season.
