Our defense made 2 mistakes and Sterling couldn't finish an ice cream (or so Talksport say) but the rest of the game was pretty even.
My opinion was always that we would lose no matter what side we'd pick But at least today we had a side that closely resembled what I've come to label as a "Brendan Rodgers" team. Fair enough Sterling can't finish - that's why he isn't a striker. If Sturridge comes back in or we actually bother to sign a striker in the same mould rather than a Lambert or a Balotelli then we might actually start to think abouthow we can worry our opponents rather than how they can worry us. Defence still has the same problems as ever though
Let's be honest here. At no stage did we believe we could win at old Trafford today. Yes we had more of the ball, more shots and more on target. But we felt that it was all powder puff stuff. The aim is to put the ball into the net. This is what last year we did and we always had that threat in every match. Today, it was like give balotelli 2 hours and 20 shots he wouldn't have scored. My relief is that it could have been 5-0 as we went attacking with no chance of scoring. Rodgers is 100% responsible. What's the point of playing football if there is no one to score. The mancs did not play that well. Never mind Chelsea, I can see them mancs going the rest of the league undefeated. It seems that they are the exact opposite of last season. They do not know how to lose even when playing s**t.
BR made some interesting choices today. Positives: 1) He opted for the false 9 with speed up front and creativity in the middle, which many of us (myself included) had said we would like to see. It worked in terms of creating chances and playing some lovely stuff - but alas not with scoring. It really highlights how our attack is dependent on speed. Everything else though was for the bad. Negatives: 1) Insistence on picking Johnson (This needs no explanation) 2) 3 at the back - the whole world and his dog knows 3 at the back doesn't work for us, so why choose it away from home, against a competent attack? 3) Allen for 90 mins - Save a professional foul, was anonymous all game and his usual 'steady' passing was all over the place. 4) Gerrard for 90 mins - Apart from a tasty ball to Moreno, a passenger again 5) Hooking our best 1st half player (Lallana) at half time inexplicably - does he have an injury? 6) Dropping Mignolet - Ok, Mig is **** and shot of confidence but he is never **** enough to be replaced by a GK that dives out of the way of shots and who was inexplicably on his knees for Utd's 3rd. Wtf were you thinking Brenda???
Oh come off it. One offside goal and two defensive **** ups led to their goals. Jones had nothing to do with them.
I had no problem with Jones performance but I don't think he should have chose a corner for Rooneys shot, he was 18 yards out so would have had time to see which direction it was going in
No one was within 10 yards of Rooney because Allen went towards Valencia with 3 other Liverpool players and Gerrard was napping in no mans land.
seeing coutinho just **** tracking off in the build up yet again really pissed me off. Becoming a luxury player because that bollox ain't acceptable and great players do both sides of the game
