I'm a bit sick of our managers feeding us the line it's hard to attract players to Sunderland.

Poyet has now stressed this prior to the January window.

Hull, Stoke and Swansea seem to do alright.

None of us are getting champions league quality without Champions league but I would suggest it's those in charge failing to attract players NOT the area.

we could attract anybody (within reason) if we threw enough money at them! Maybe the fact we dont allow ourselves to pay them enough could be the problem!

Money needs to be paid, and we will be held to ransom, but we have to spend in January on 2 strikers. I am not happy that Whickam is here for 4 more years either, when we could have kept Bentdner who is better. This team is crap compared to the 1999-2000 team, and this frigging draw mentallaty is making us a laughing stock.

Hang on. The last time we threw money at players, they were all ****, and were tied on long contracts, crippling our club and almost sending us down. Im happy that were being a tad more sensible with our money than in recent years.

Im happy to spend on players, but only if they're proven. Risks to a minimum please.

If ourselves and QPR were after the same player, who lets say is after 50 grand a week, QPR would only have to offer that, we would probably have to offer at least 60 grand for him not to live near London. Sad but probably true!

    Poyet struggling to convince targets

Gus Poyet admits he is having difficulty convincing transfer targets to join Sunderland.
The Uruguayan has spoken of his desire to bolster his squad when the transfer window opens in January, with Liverpool forward Fabio Borini - who spent last season on loan at Sunderland - thought to be among his targets.
However, head coach Poyet revealed that he has had problems trying to entice players to move to the Stadium of Light.
"When you give certain types of players the option of going to London or the north east in the same conditions, 99 from 100 will choose London and that's the reality," he said ahead of Saturday's home Premier League clash against West Ham.
"We have to be a step ahead - we have to do things better than those clubs in the south or in other countries in a nice place with different weather.
"We need to do something that will convince them to come to the north.
"On top of that it is even more difficult in January because clubs don't want to lose their best players, so everything needs to come together."
Sunderland are hoping to end a run of five matches without a win in England's top flight when they face Sam Allardyce's men.

God you're an idiot. Yes you're right the team that finished seventh twice are better than the side we are building now. Phil Dowd decides not to give us a penalty for a handball which would've made the difference. Would love to see a positive post from you Monty butt i guess that'll never happen

Our recruitment policy has been pretty dreadful since the arrival of Keane. Who ever has been in charge has got it disastrously wrong on more than one occasion.

Bruce - was allowed to buy whoever without building a team, We had a plethora of slow midget type central midfielders, three right wingers, no full back and a dependency on loan players less healthy than an alcoholic has on special brew. During this or best players were sold off and that money wasn't truly reinvested properly

MON - Paid big bucks for Fletcher which I think everyone knew was vastly over the odds (now this was either MON being stubborn saying I demand him or we just couldn't play hard ball or couldn't be bothered to change target) what will we get from selling fletcher??? Honest opinions. I don't think we would get 5 million for him. Johnson was IMO a good buy. However his January was disgraceful. Danny boy - how much has he cost the club, Alfie, what was that all about?

Paolo/strange Italian guy - Wow this was a disaster of Godzilla proportions, which we are still feeling. This time an invasion of cheap ****e foreigners, who knows what the club lost in agents fees etc and not one of them has been a success.
a LOAD OF PLAYERS THEN LEFT THE CLUB FOR NOTHING!!!!!!

Gus, well a bit more success it has to be said with Conger line. I think we all feel PVA is canny, Virgini the most entertaining player we have, The French lad who has come in is a great stop gap and you could argue he's been our best player since he came. Bridcutt seems to be finding his feet now, but Buckley, scocco et al do cast doubts.

Okay Ellis is pretty new to being a chairman and it was clear he knew nothing about football or it's business and it could be argued he began a bit like Mike Ashley. Out of his depth and relying on people who were taking him for a lend. I have always thought we would struggle this season but then hopefully we could get back on track. Does Ellis want to crack it though or is he going the way of Randy Learner?

Honest question who did better in the recruitment stakes, Bob Murray (who ran Sunderland on a shoestring) or Ellis (I would love to see the outlay of signings over sales for Ellis's time in charge)

Do we know that is true though or is it a line the club feeds to fans to appease us. People just seem to accept that as the truth, has a player ever said that or is it just our club saying it preparing us for lack luster transfer dealings?
We know we have to unload Graham and Jozy to buy. Are we likely to unload either? We will most certainly be taking a big hit on both of them.

To be honest lads on £50k a week I would prefer to be in London. It isn't just us, Ginola, Ferdinand, Waddle, Beardsley, Gascoinge all left Newcastle for the Big City, for us older lads Supermac. It's a fact of life. Keane suffered the same as boss. It won't go away.

90% of the time it comes down to money but sometimes players want to live in London. didn't Sanchez reject Liverpool because he wanted to live in London?

Citeh didn't do too badly attracting top players up north, once they found some money <ok>

On a serious note it is frustrating but I look at Leeds and Portsmouth and see where any Premiership team could be if they don't manage their finances prudently.

Sad thing is I know a lot of people who live in Sunderland who would rather **** off to the Metrocentre to do there shopping, how much will that be taking out of the local economy? If you cant keep the normal local people here for whatever reason then what chance have we got of attracting players, especially the ones who have some spoilt tart harping on in their ear about the latest miss rich bitch diamond studded knickers that can only be bought in Megaskank outlets in London. ****, the town centre only needs a few gazelles and a couple of giraffes and it will be mistaken from satellite images as the Serengeti plains because stuff seems to be disappearing only to be replaced by waste land and patches of grass.

Using the area as a reason why you can't attract players is something that's happened a lot with you lot but it really is just an excuse, there'd be plenty of talent on the continent willing to play for any top flight team in this league. There's some godawful ****holes in Europe and these teams still attract players from the likes of Brazil and so on, so I think you're given a poor excuse there.

Moyes couldn't sell his philosophy to Herrera, or rather Woodward couldn't get him to even speak with Moyes, soon as LVG turns up though, he's all for the move. The manager has to be able to sell his ideas and his ambition, if he can do that well, then getting top players on board isn't an issue.

Poyet might be a poor salesman, so far, it's a learning curve that he'll have to pay close attention to or he'll end up sitting at home with a P45 wishing he didn't sit there making excuses and fought harder for the players.

Spot on mate...We have spent beyond our means for years without success....We need to be looking for untapped talent in the transfer market and bringing players through the ranks..

    Congerton is the salesman fella.

Short is being tight with the purse strings we know this. Tight budget plus club stature is what I think is the problem, the problem as far as getting Ellis to spend anyway. When you see the top clubs paying less for world class players than lower are playing for just decent players it's easy to see the problem here. When you think Ellis has sanctioned 10m for AJ and 10m for rodwell, 8m for Connor and 12m for Fletcher then seeing Aresnal bring in Giroud for 10m, Welbeck for 16. Then you've Man City, Fernando for 12m , Navas for 15m. Our money just isn't getting us near the standard. There's just no value in comparison. I get the feeling that Short is holding out for quality we can't obtain.
