Right Stringer has just said that tommorow there is going to be major news about the club. Well there is a few rumours going around that the Walkers Stadium is changing its name, So i would imagine the King Power Stadium would be the most likely as the owners have already announced plans to do this. So what do people think. I dont mind if they change the name but i would prefer it gets a permanent name like Filbert Street did. Emilio often refers to it as the Wharf so what other names are their. Filbert Way stadium, Raw Dykes Park
Soar Valley Stadium, Raw Dykes Road. No innuendoes there! ps - I reckon it will be the Singha Stadium. King Power Stadium wouldn't earn any extra revenue so I would be surprised if it was that. It's never been fully explained quite how we are sporting partners with Singha Beer, apart from selling the stuff at the stadium.
Joking apart they actually don't sound too bad if you ignore the innuendos (though Raw Dykes Road especially is probably a bit too obvious!) I'd love it to have a permanent name, it will never get any credibility from opposing fans if it keeps changing to a different sponsor. But for the love of God please no one shorten it to the 'KP Stadium', we are not Hull, contrary to rumours that they are in fact the Leicester B team. Most people seem to call it Filbert Way, good enough name, though yes Proud Fox I call it Freeman's Wharf myself.
personally i am disappointed by losing the name walkers stadium as it is the original stadium name and also this will mean the end of are loyal sponsors walkers crisps which would in my mind be a sad moment.
You've got a point there, it may be a sponsor but it's a Leicester based company and has a long standing affiliation with us. Thought the sponsor used to look mint on the kits too Don't add this to the poll but I also thought the 'Fosse Ground' or even 'Fosse Park' would sound quite cool. And I know what you're going to say but Northampton's 'Sixfields' is named after a shopping centre I believe.
Why is everyone assuming it will be King Power? Stringer was calling it the Signha Stadium in October, and there were rumours flying around then....
The thing that mosts concerns me about that is that they are planning to extend the stadium to over 40,000. We will rarely fill that even in the Premiership. I'd have it no bigger than 36,000.
In the top half of prem we would fill, thats were the owners are looking? Promotion next year, consolidate and then top half? 3 year plan!
Ah screw it, 9 people have voted Filbert Way, I might as well get with the program I'm never ever ever calling it the King Power Stadium. Ever.
What I don't get is - why is our Stadium referred to by a lot of our fans as Filbert Way - yet the media ignore that name - whilst Upton Park's official name is The Boleyn Ground - yet everyone calls it Upton Park?
Cant be the Walkers Stadium any longer if they dont continue to sponsor us. Our owners are retailers and will make money out of the naming. If we want our stadium to have its own name perpetually, then we need to always refer to it as such - whether it is Filbert Way, Freemans Wharf, whatever. Just as West Hams ground came to be known to everyone as Upton Park, whereas the reality is it is the Boleyn Ground. No reason the identity cant be known to us Leicester fans as whatever we choose, despite what the owners may brand it as. Would eventually catch on with other fans.
Well now its official that the stadium is to be called THE KING POWER STADIUM, I'm happy with the name though most will just call it The KP Stadium. http://www.lcfc.com/page/LatestNews/0,,10274~2386410,00.html
I don't really see how it shows commitment to the club....At the end of the day it's just advertising for King Power. I do believe they want to stick around for a while (at least until we go up) but I think we'd all be happier if it wasn't called the 'KP Stadium'. In fact it sounds embarrassing if you ask me.
KP Stadium sounds like its been named after Kevin Pietersen. I just hope that it means that they are here for the long haul, promotion and beyond, or else they wouldn't have bothered paying for the renaming rights. Looks as tho Walkers will still have a presence becoming the clubs Legacy Partner according to lcfc.com
As a fat guy, I love that you keep naming your stadium after crisps. Walkers, now KP, I can't wait for Pringles Park
