At least he has shown not to be a flash-in-the-pan. Too many rookies have come up with a huge fanfair having excelled in their debuts in junior formula, only to crumble and look ordinary when they get to F1.
Considering F1 s a results based business, you would think that results would dictate who gets in and who stays in.
Well you would think it would be results based due to prize money and status - not to mention it's meant to be the pinnacle of Motorsport.
The Daily Mail have come out with an article categorically stating that Button has been chosen and will drive next year. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...Magnussen-partner-Fernando-Alonso-season.html This effectively confirms Magnussen.
@suziperry: Upon my return from the gym.. #JensonButton news from Spain is that he will partner #Alonso 99% ..We will find out tomorrow ... #F1
Hoping for good news but a few reports still trouble me. According to Benson the Danish Media have been invited to the announcement and Jenson will apparently be a Berlin for Hugo Boss event tomorrow.
Some saying it's Button and others Magnussen. The truth is nobody has a flipping clue! Just media outlets desperate for a bit of attention and then claiming to be in know if they guess right.
It would be a major own goal for Mail Sport to **** this up. They would surely only go with news very, very close to the source?
Now we have a credible source. The BBC say its Alonso-Button! http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/30328327
And the Daily Telegraph: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/mo...be-revealed-in-Thursday-press-conference.html ... unless they're all following the Mail's mole ...
If you listen to the craziest rumor out there today, It's Button-Magnussen. The rumor went something along the lines of... "Alonso tore up his ready to be signed McLaren agreement and demanded a new mid season release clause be inserted right after the Abu Dhabi test, effectively holding McLaren to ransom and media/sponsor pressure over the announcement. McLaren have held off announcing their drivers to re-negotiate with Alonso as they want a long term commitment. Also to pigeon hole Alonso even further into being his only option, whilst McLaren had those 2 lined up, and Vandoorne should they lose either and Alonso. This was the reason for the longer delay. Somewhere along the line, Alonso lost his game of demand poker, Ron Dennis refused to have Alonso try and play the team again and re-signed both this years drivers when it was clear Alonso was up to his old tricks". Surprised that nonsense never made the Mail, they love rubbish Hope Button does have the drive, Deserved.
The BBC on radio 4 have just said Button is expected to be announced as being retained for next year , joining Alonso . Please let this be true !!!!!
