When Dean Windass crashed home that sublime volley at Wembley back in 2008, it not only changed the landscape of football in Hull but assured him of legendary status forever and a day. And now, six years later, Windass is helping to spread the gospel of his hometown football club nearly 4,500 miles away from his East Yorkshire roots. Windass has flown out to India this week to help promote the club that he fired into the Premier League for the first time to foreign fans who avidly watch English football’s top flight every weekend. Joining members of the Club’s commercial and marketing teams, Windass will be part of the Barclays Premier League Live event being staged in Mumbai where he will provide expert analysis on a live screening of the Tigers’ game against Chelsea on Saturday and engage with locals eager to find out more about Steve Bruce’s side. “India is a long, long way to go but this is something I am really looking forward to,” said Windass. “The Barclays Premier League is the biggest league in the world and it is where everybody wants to be, both as players and supporters. “With Hull playing in the Premier League, it’s inevitable that we’re going to attract more and more supporters from further afield and it’s going to be exciting to meet some of those out in India and hopefully I can help attract some new followers as well.” Windass will join former top flight stars including Peter Schmeichel and Robbie Fowler at the event, which is expected to attract more than 20,000 fans. “It’s difficult to know what to expect really,” admitted Windass. “I’m looking forward to meeting up with some of the former players who’ll be out there and I’m really looking forward to commentating on our game against Chelsea. “This is a wonderful opportunity to help promote our game and our club to a new audience and it should be a fantastic experience.” BPL Live is about giving international fans the opportunity to experience the passion and excitement of Barclays Premier League matches and stadiums. The first BPL Live took place in Johannesburg, South Africa in April and was a big success. http://www.hullcitytigers.com/news/...ay-from-home-2133766.aspx#BDEe52pvveZVlQSw.99 Details of Barclays Premier League Live are here... http://www.premierleague.com/en-gb/news/news/2014-15/nov/bpl-live-comes-to-mumbai.html
Blimey, it was hard enough us locals understanding what Deano was on about half the time, I wonder how Indians will find him!
excellent opportunity, shame we may get fisted in front of a crowd of thousands in India!!! I work out in India quite a bit, and there are a lot of passionate football fans out there, as you'd expect the more popular teams are Man U, Chelsea and Man City with some support for Liverpool and Arsenal, but not a great deal else....though I do know one Bolton fan, but that's only cos he went to uni there, and even working in Pune, where the Venkys are from, there are no Blackburn fans anywhere.... Sadly the only way to break the Indian market would be to start winning things and having really famous players
Actually, the most revered animal in India is the cow, so we'd have to be Hull Frisians if we wanted to be big there.
