After a rewarding win over Walsall, Town drew PNE away, some might have groaned at this and others would have been happier. We lost 0-1 earlier in the season to them in a close game when our team was beginning to gel. Some of their Fans Forums seemed to think they'd walk this cup game.

Since then we have adapted our style of play to a 3-5-2 and brought in altogether three loanees, two of which will most likely feature if Mellon keeps to 3-5-2. A report in Shropshire star talks about Gayle being held out of the squad due to the formation and his time will come at some point, will this be in the cup in a 4-4-2?

Form wise historically - Shrewsbury v Preston

    Games won: ----- 9
    Games drawn: --- 5
    Games lost: ------17

Preston are sat pretty in fourth place in League 1 with a GD of +13. They have Garner as the one to watch with 11 goals, well he would be but he's out injured with a tendon injury. Other players only have 3 goals (Browne and Gallagher) so I'm sure that our squad have been made aware with how to deal with them. In the last 6 games Preston have won three and lost three, scoring and conceding six goals. Loanees Beckford and Fewster have permission to play.

    Last Preston Squad against Yeovil:
    21 Stuckmann
    04 Wiseman
    05 Clarke Booked
    23 Huntington
    16 Buchanan
    08 Kilkenny (King - 70' )
    19 Welsh Booked (Brownhill - 76' )
    07 Humphrey
    12 Gallagher
    17 Reid
    10 Beckford (Davies - 85' )

Shrewsbury have Lawrence back available after his 5 yellow ban, the loanees are also able to play. Robinson looks likely not to play for Shrewsbury again if he can't sort out his injury. Mangan is getting fitter and hopefully will make an appearance, I'm guessing from off the bench. Will Gayle be on the Bench?

I think we have a good chance of winning this game especially with a weakened strike force for the opposition. We will take a good crowd up the M6 to cheer on the team. What formation and squad do people think MM will start the game with? Put your thoughts below and give some predictions.

3-5-2 for me with Mangan starting if he is fit. This will be a good test to see if we could possibly be a decent outfit at League 1 level. I think we are well capable of holding our own and playing some good flowing football and I go for a 1-1 draw with us winning the replay. It would be great to be in the hat with the big boys.

a bitter cold today with rain moving in could make for a lottery, sticking my neck out, if we score we may win. 1-0 away win. FS AJ Devon, meanwhile behind our Backs, Grecians entertain Brewers tomorrow, brought forward from February.

Unlucky folks we were inept in the second half as Gallagher's conversion showed. On another day you would have got at least a draw. Now looking forward to drawing Millwall away. Good luck for the rest of the season

Cheers for that, sounds like we were poor in the first and better in second due to formation and squad changes.

Anyone from town make the journey?

Did not go but still wonder why MM sometimes uses 4-4-2 when all the evidence seems to point to 3-5-2 being better (as a scientist that annoys me). Losing 1-0 to a classy League 1 side like Preston is no disgrace and we can now move on to another more important away game at Cambridge. We need to be winning to keep up with Luton and Wycombe who do not drop that many points. Luton must have improved greatly since their poor showing at the Greenhous Meadow.
