Alan McLoughlin has left as a Pompey first-team coach.

The Blues legend was today told the club are seeking an alternative candidate with more coaching experience.

McLoughlin had previously served in the role under Guy Whittingham, Richie Barker and then current boss Andy Awford.

It leaves Paul Hardyman assisting Awford, with the club now exploring new coaching options.

What a turn up ! Some rumours that it could be the Bald Eagle, or John Hollins arriving.

Another rumour has Shaun North, he's just left his position of 1st team coach at Cheltenham Town.

A bit of a shock and he was another loyal servant, although I have stated on this and other forums that I thought he was the weak link in the backroom setup. Jim Smith is in his seventies so I cannot see him coming. What Awfs needs is a good coach who knows this league and can get the forwards ticking.

Jim Smith's too old to get back into things full time. Could come in as an advisor. I still think Frank Burrows would be good to have aroud, he's a great coach if nothing else, again though he's a bit too old to do a job full time.

Possibly Awfs has someone in mind. Would Guy Whittingham return ? He would be a great striker coach to my mind.

Maybe it's time we looked outside the club for a coach with a lot of experience of the lower leagues rather than keep appointing former players.

Although I can't help thinking that Herman would give the players a good old kicking........... <laugh>

We do need someone back there who gets the division and also has a way of getting the strikers ticking....I also do agree with BP that we need an outside influence. As a complete "by the by" how well is Steve Cotterill doing with BC - fair play to the bloke - shows with a stable set up what he can achieve I suppose.

Agreed. We should forget about ex-players and go for experience for once. It's a no-brainer, and I'm getting a bit bored of all these ex-players who seem to be hired based on their connection to the club rather than their actual ability to help Portsmouth get promoted. NO MORE JOBS FOR OLD BOYS*

    * Except David James cause he's bloody fantastic. Could possibly accept Herman and Pedro too.

Latest 'strong' rumours are Shaun North (as stated already by 3rd eye) who already lives in Portsmouth, and hails from the Isle of Wight, where his father Roger has produced quite a few youngsters for PFC over the years, and also Kevin Dillon, a former Pompey midfielder from a few years back.

    Both have ex-Pompey connections..........I know, I know..........don't blame me I'm only the messenger..............<cheers>
