Lens is a coal mining area historically. It's flat, dull and industrial. Never, ever spend a Sunday there. It will be shut. Vimy Ridge is well worth a visit however, if you're in the area.
The area is about size of East Yorkshire but with a population less than Hull and East Yorkshire. Lens is the second largest town with 36,000 the most populated is 42,000. So they do well to in crowds larger than their population for games. It is more akin to Bridlington Town with a similar population in Bridlington of 36,000 in a region of around 400,000 getting 40,000+ crowds. Which myself and some other City fans and fans of football would find handy.
A lot of towns in that area were completely flattened in WW1. Rebuilt and flattened again, far more damage than Hull sustained, in WW2. They don't have any remaining bombsites or bomb damaged buildings though, having rebuilt by the 1960s.
Went Brid town on Saturday and was one of 125 there seems they are struggling for crowds at the moment while Scarborough and Ferriby seem to be doing better.
The teams you've mentioned can never win the Prem. Liverpool haven't done it they're a massive club. Newcastle, Everton, Spurs will never win it so to say The likes if Derby, Forest , Leeds will just ain't gonna happen. And yes they are bigger clubs than us. Can some of you on here stop biting so easily, Jesus these merchants are hardly Adrian Durham. And relax
History is rewritten all of them time. I would rather be living through the best days of our clubs history than reminiscing about things that happened before I was born and can only be viewed in black and white. Whipping boys? We don't win to often and when we do it is usually only by close margins with the Man Utd game being the exception. I would much rather be drawing with Arsenal and Liverpool, scoring 2 goals against the richest club in world football and losing to Tottenham and Southampton by one goal margins. Than losing to Bradford, Millwall and Rotherham.
