Former Arsenal prodigy nets brace, starring at League One leaders. The 22-year-old youngster scored a brace as Bristol City continued at the top of League One. Ex Gunners youngster Luke Freeman is managing to rebuild his career in League One, scoring a brace this weekend against Peterborough United. Signed for £200,000 from Gillingham in 2008 as a much hyped 15-year-old, Freeman starred in Arsenal's youth and reserve sides, and was noted by Arsene Wenger as being "a very interesting prospect." But though Wenger likes to give his young players chances in League Cup competitions, Freeman never made his Arsenal debut, and instead took in couple of loan spells to lower division sides between 2010 and 2012. One of these loans, up the road from North London with Stevenage, saw the 22-year-old signed on a permanent deal, and Freeman went on to make 128 appearances for the Boro, scoring 17 goals. That form convinced Bristol City to snap him up this summer despite Freeman extending his contract at Broadhall Way earlier this year, and the youngster has played a vital role for the Robins as they sought to return to the Championship. The West Country club are currently perched at the top of the division, just ahead of rivals Swindon, and Freeman has underlined his importance by appearing in every league game this season, with his best game yet coming in the 3-0 win over Peterborough at London Road. Though Arsenal fans never got to see the forward turn out for the first team, it looks like Freeman may gradually be working his way up towards the chance to play Premier League football. Is Luke Freeman good enough to play Premier League football one day? http://hereisthecity.com/en-gb/2014...gy-nets-brace-starring-at-league-one-leaders/ So, is he or will he be?
Yes and unfortunately sooner than we would like would be my guess.. This exactly makes my point from the other thread.!
Maybe....m No way is he good enough for a top half team.. YET! but for someone like Sunderland, Hull, Leicester, Palace yes, yes he is. Would rather he stay with us though as I think we're seeing something special happening with him, I also think Smith is good enough for the sides listed in the prem too, which makes it all the sweeter that they are BOTH in our team.
Very difficult to judge this for several reasons. His current level of ability/skill is excellent for League One. I would mark at 9/10. Work rate is also very good although he does appear to tire more quickly than some others in the current City team. The big question that is almost impossible to be answered by fans is whether the top two inches is Premiership level. Is his football brain quick enough and perceptive enough to outwit that level of performer? Those like YaYa, Mata, Hazard and even those who have been around a long time like Gerrard, Lampard, Osman. This is the biggest hurdle to overcome for any player moving up from Championship or below. On the other hand that player would also benefit from the sharp football brains of others. For this season, all we as City fans can hope, is that the chance of a League winners medal means more to our squad than personal career progression in January.
Go into most championship teams not so sure at present of top flight footie ability ....... KS most probably would fit in to a lower half team In PL........
Potentially, but not yet. there are much better defenders and midfielders in the Prem than there are in League 1
I remember being certain about Caulker playing Premier. As yet neither Korey or Luke give me the same impression.
Bit different IMO... Caulker came to us having played a few games for Tottenham, highly rated and it was just a loan so they we're always going to have him back.
He's definitely good enough for the championship. Not good enough for the prem yet as he's unproven in the championship. I reckon he'll get there in 2-4 years time. He may have got there already had he been a regular for Gillingham rather than going off to arsenal.
I never thought Danny Rose was that special when on loan with us, but he has flourished in the premiership, even getting into the full England team a few months ago. Who are we to be able to spot a Premier standard player when they are playing against the hoofers and clatterers of Division One. If I was these young lads, I would be looking to see where we finish in May. If we go up, we might be able to do a Swansea or a Southampton and continue the push through the divisions. And for that matter, we could well be playing Sunderland/Hull/Palace/Leicester next year anyway. Final thought - the Prem strugglers will look for proven players to get them out of a hole. Not possible Div 1 players, looking to make the jump. In my opinion.
Why is it that every single time we have a decent result we feel the need to state that we're far better than what we've shown? No, I don't think Luke Freeman is good enough for the Premier League. Why? Because he's playing for a League 1 team with a team of expensive players. When he's shown that ability at a higher level then he's good enough.
If he's good enough for the Prem, then when we bought him a Prem team would of at least challenged us. Remember they are more educated in football than us, if they get a sniff of someone who they believe will be good enough they will snap him up and loan him out.
